The Cal Poly Pomona women’s soccer team has advanced to the NCAA postseason as the No. 3 seed in the West Region.

The Broncos will challenge Point Loma in first-round action at 7 p.m. at Cal State Los Angeles.

The winner of Thursday’s matchup will move on to face the second-seeded host team. The second-round matchup would take place at 2 p.m. Saturday at the same location.

This will mark the fourth all-time NCAA Tournament appearance for the CPP women’s soccer program. The most recent NCAA playoff game occurred in 2012. The event features a 48-team field and it’s a single-elimination tournament.

The Broncos (13-5-1) are directed by second-year head coach Mike Dibbini. CPP has notched 12 shutouts this season, just one shy of matching the school record.

The Broncos’ win total of 13 is also the highest for the program since 2001 and as of this week, CPP ranks eighth nationally at the Division II level for shutout percentage.

Last week, six CPP student-athletes earned All-Conference selections. Senior Alison Sauve received the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Defensive Player of the Year accolade and also was featured on the CCAA All-Tournament Team.

Thursday will represent the fifth all-time meeting between the Broncos and Sea Lions, a team that competes out of the Pac West Conference. So far in the series, CPP holds a 3-1 advantage. The most recent matchup came in the 2012 season opener, when the Broncos captured a 2-1 victory.
