Dibbini departs Cal Poly Pomona for D1 job

Cal Poly Pomona women’s soccer head coach Mike Dibbini has resigned and accepted the head coaching position at Kansas State which is starting a program.

Dibbini coninued the strong tradition in women’s soccer at Cal Poly Pomona. In two years his teams were 21-13-6 overall and 11-10-6 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

The Broncos just finished off their most successful season in more than a decade a they ended up No. 16 in the final Division II national rankings. It marked the second-highest ranking in program history, trailing only the 1999 squad that closed the year at No. 2.

The 2014 Broncos posted a record of 15-6-1, advancing to the West Region title game and marking the furthest in the playoffs for any Broncos’ women’s soccer team since 1999.

Athletic Director Brian Swanson says Vanessa Valentine will serve as acting head coach for the Broncos’ women’s soccer program. A national search to replace Dibbini will begin on Jan. 5 when the Cal Poly Pomona campus re-opens after the holiday break.
