SBVC men’s basketball team braces for playoffs

The San Bernardino Valley College men’s basketball team is the last of the area community college teams still playing. The Wolverines (30-2) will play host to West Los Angeles (18-8) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

They advanced with a 57-53 win over Los Angeles Harbor. It was SBVC’s 19th straight win, including a 10-0 run in the usually difficult Foothill Conference.

The Wolverines are no stranger to the postseason, having finished as state runner-up last season with a title game loss to Santa Rosa.

The most notable holdover from that team is guard Charles Callison (15.4 ppg, 4.2 apg), who earned MVP honors in the Foothill Conference this season.

Sophomore forward Kyle Benton (13.1 ppg, 7.8 rpg), sophomore guards Todd Lewis (12.5 ppg, 6 rpg) and Khleem {Perkins (11.5 ppg) are also averaging double figures.

West Los Angeles is the third-place finisher in the Western States-South Conference. It is led by sophomore guard Brandon Hood (18.8 ppg).
