SBVC baseball team to play for Foothill Conference title

VIDEO: SBVC coach Bill Mierzwik talks about win over Chaffey and going head to head with Rio Hondo for conference title.

The San Bernardino Valley College baseball team (21-12, 17-4)  will play for a third straight Foothill Conference this week when it goes head-to-head this week with Rio Hondo (25-8, 17-4) with whom it is tied. It is a three-game series so there will be no shared first place.

The teams will play at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at San Bernardino Valley, then again at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at Rio Hondo. The final game would be on Friday at SBVC.

Wolverines coach Bill Mierzwik says sophomore right-hander Nick Przybylek (8-2, 2.22) will be on the mound for today’s game.

Sophomore right-hander Brandon Conlin (3-5, 3.68) has been going the second game and freshman left-hander Sam Fitzgerald (4-0, 3.97) the third.

Mierzwik is leaning toward keeping that the same although it could change of Conlin is needed out of the bullpen today.

Key offensive players include sophomore first baseman Aaron Cisneros (.339, 11 HR, 36 RBI), freshman second baseman Jonathan McCray (.355) and freshman outfielder Austin Berglund (.376).

Last year the teams were part of a three-way tie for first that also included Chaffey.
