Senior Alyssa Woodward of Pomona-Pitzer has been mamed the SCIAC Women’s Water Polo Athlete of the Year and freshman Morgan McCracken was named the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year.
Woodward, a three-time Division III All-American, led the Sagehens in scoring for the fourth year in a row with 65 goals, finishing her four-year career with 318. She reached the 300-goal plateau in a 14-10 win over Azusa Pacific on April 8, when she scored five times.
Woodward, a native of Riverside, was named the SCIAC Female Athlete of the Week for all sports for that week, after also adding a career-high six goals in a Senior Day win over La Verne on April 11. She also had a hat trick against No. 3 USC and scored twice in an overtime win over No. 19 UC San Diego.
McCracken finished second on the team in goals (41), finishing behind only Woodward’s 65. She had a season-high five goals in a 16-5 win over Redlands, a total which she matched in a 14-10 win over Azusa Pacific, and also had a trick against No. 9 Cal State Northridge. McCracken capped off her rookie season with five goals in the SCIAC Championship Tournament, including two in the finals against Whittier.
