Victor Valley’s Max Barkeley headed to Simon Fraser after all

Shooting guard Max Barkeley of Victor Valley College has decided to stick to NCAA Division II Simon Fraser University after all.

Barkeley, also a graduate of Rim of the World High School, originally signed with the school in November but decided to look around a bit when the coach resigned at the end of the season.

After reconsidering other options and talking with new coach Virgil Hill Barkeley decided that was the best place for him after all. It helped that Barkeley knew a few players from the school, most notably former Chaffey College alumn Sango Niang, and all spoke highly of the school and their experience there.

“The new coach is an alum of the school so I know his heart is in it and he’s very passionate about coaching there,” Barkeley said.

“You never know what can happen with a coaching change I just wanted to be sure.”

The school is also not an unfamiliar one for Barkeley who was born in Vancouver and still has many relatives in the area.

Barkeley averaged 14.3 points, 4 rebounds and 2.3 assists and had a season high of 31 points twice. He score more than 20 points in four other games.
