Cal State San Bernardino will start the season ranked No. 19 by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. It is the 15th straight year the Coyotes have begin the new season ranked as one of the country’s best.

The Coyotes have won six NCAA regional titles, 11 CCAA titles and earned 15 consecutive NCAA tourney berths in the 25-year tenure of coach Kim Cherniss.

Cal State will be coming back after what was a down season for them. The Coyotes went 21-7  but saw an impressive streak of 8 straight CCAA title come to an end. Even more impressive was a stretch of 14 straight appearances in the West Region final that also came to an end.

The Coyotes face three teams in the preseason poll — No. 8 Colorado School of Mines on Sept. 5, No. 12 Sonoma State on Oct. 2 and No. 20 Northwest Nazarene on Sept. 4.

Five West Region schools are in the poll with No. 11 BYU-Hawaii and No. 24 Western Washington joining Cal State, Sonoma and Northwets Nazarene. Five other West schools — including Cal State L.A. — received votes.

The Coyotes are led by senior two-time All-American MB Brenna McIntosh, who begins the season among the leading blockers among active players in D2 with 93 solo blocks, 353 block assists and 446 total blocks. Her first solo block in 2015 will make her CSUSB’s all-time career leader, surpassing Kim Morohunfola. She needs 53 block assists and 54 total blocks to also earn those school records.
