Cal Poly Pomona volleyball coach Rosie Wegrich netted her 400th win when her Broncos defeated Cal State East Bay 3-1 (25-19, 25-12, 21-25, 25-19).

Wegrich, in her 24th season, says she wasn’t aware of the looming milestone until after the match when she was informed of it by school officials. She was presented a photo and posed for other pictures with her team to commemorate the occasion.

“After that many no one really stands out,” she said. “They all mesh together.”

The Broncos (13-9, 9-5) haven’t made the playoffs in six years but Wegrich’s team is sitting third in the CCAA, and the top eight will go on to the CCAA Tournament which is having one in the sport for the first time.

The team is led by sophomore outside hitter Deanna Blaine (264 kills), versatile senior Nicoletta Stork (214, kills, 394 assists) and senior libero Zoe Herrera.

The team has shown a lot of promise but Wegrich is looking for more improvement which will help her team snap that playoff drought.

“We had a couple recent matches where we weren’t consistent,” she said. “It showed where we need to get better and we’re hoping to build on what we saw.”
