Cal Poly Pomona men to host CCAA Tournament quarterfinal

The CCAA Postseason tournament gets underway and features the top eight men’s and women’s teams. The quarterfinal games will be held Tuesday at different campus sites with the highest seeded team hosting.

The Cal Poly Pomona men are the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 San Francisco State at 7 p.m. Kellogg Arena. The Broncos won the only previous meeting between the teams this season. In the past teams played twice, once on the road and once at home. The addition of Cal State San Marcos this season made for an uneven number of teams so it went to an unbalanced schedule.

Both Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino made the women’s field but both will be on the road.

Cal State San Bernardino (13-12, 10-10), under first-year coach Sue Crebbin, is the No. 5 seed and it will play at No. 4 Cal State Stanislaus (16-10, 12-8). The teams split regular season games, each winning at home. But the one the Coyotes lost on the road was by just a point.

Cal Poly Pomona is the No. 7 and will play at No. 2 UC San Diego. The Broncos and the Tritons are the only two teams to make the field every year since the event was brought back in 2008. The Broncos (11-16, 9-11) have lost to the Tritons twice.

The semifinals and championship games will be held at the Stockton Arena.
