Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s team headed to Texas

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s basketball team has qualified for the postseason for the thrid straight year, winning both the SCIAC regular season and the post-season conference tournament.

The Athenas (22-5) will take on Trinity (Tex.) in their first round playoff game in a regional on Friday at University of Texas-Tyer.

The playoff field was unveiled on today.

Sophomore Kailee Severt (13 ppg) is the team’s leading scorer while senior forward Mara Falahee (8.8 rpg) is the team’s leading rebounder.

CMS, coached by Kristen Dowling, defeated the Redlands 70-47 in the championship game of the SCIAC tournament to earn the automatic conference bid. That win avenged a loss to the same team in the last game of the regular season.

Trinity (22-6) won the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament to earn its automatic conference bid. It is the second postseason berth in the last four years for the school.
