Redlands golfer takes home national title, then weekly honor

Sophomore Caroline Ordian of the University of Redlands women’s golf team has been named the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Female Athlete of the Week for her performance at the NCAA Division III Championships.  This is her fourth such honor during the 2015-16 academic year.

With consistency and patience throughout the weather-shortened tournament, Ordian captured the NCAA Individual Championship after posting a three-round total of 218 (73-70-75), which was one stroke ahead of the runner-up.  She increased  her lead to four strokes through the front nine of the fourth round when thunderstorms and hail forced the competition to be called, thus nullifying the final day’s scores.

Ordian ranked among the top five in the field for all statistical categories, including par threes (even), par fours (+5), par fives (-3), birdies (9), and pars (35).

Earlier in the week, she was honored as the 2016 Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) NCAA Division III Player of the Year and became a two-time All-American.
