Cal State San Bernardino AD Kevin Hatcher steps down

There has been a change of leadership in athletics at Cal State San Bernardino. Kevin Hatcher, who had served as athletic director the last nine years, has stepped down and will be replaced by Morgan Walker who will hold down the job until a thorough search can be conducted.

Hatcher is pursuing other business opportunities.

“I have enjoyed the last nine years,” Hatcher said. “I just thought this was the right time to step aside and let someone else run this program.”

Hatcher said he is proud of what was accomplished under his watch, citing the participation of 25 teams in the postseason.

He also singles out the upgrade of the weight room facilities, the start of a Hall of Fame honoring both athletes and contributors to the school’s program, and most recently, the start of a women’s track program.

He says the amount of money spent per student athlete has nearly doubled.

“Sure there were other things I would have liked to have done but it’s about the student-athlete experience,” Hatcher said. “And I think the student-athlete experience here is better than when I got here.”

Morgan Walker

Walker joined the Cal State staff in 2008 as associate athletic director for compliance and internal operations and was promoted to senior associate athletic director in December 2013.

He has more than 15 years of experience in athletic administration with 12 years as a compliance professional. His previous stints include appointments at UC San Diego, San Diego State, University of Texas, El Paso and Tulane University, where he served as the assistant provost for academics and compliance for four years.
