U of Redlands favored to win SCIAC men’s soccer title

Redlands Men's Soccer Tabbed First in SCIAC Preseason Poll

The University of Redlands men’s soccer team has been tabbed the favorite in a balloting of conference coaches. The Bulldogs received eight of nine first-place votes for a total of 10 points.

The second place nod went to Chapman (25 points) with Occidental third (29). Rounding out the order were University of La Verne (34), Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (35), Pomona-Pitzer (42), Whittier (56), Cal Lutheran (59) and Caltech (71).

The Bulldogs won both the regular season and SCIAC postseason tournaments last year. Redlands finished 17-4-2 overall and 12-3-1 in conference competition.  It advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament with a first-round victory over Whitworth  (Wash.).

The Bulldogs return four first-team All-SCIAC honorees – junior defender Keoni Yates, junior forward Chase Boone, junior midfielder Casey ChubbFertal and sophomore Kayvon Parsa, who was also named the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year.

Redlands will play an exhibition game against NCAA Division II opponent Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday.
