Cal State San Bernardino’s Mya Johnson honored

Coyotes senior forward Mya Johnson has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week for Jan. 9-15.

The Los Angeles native played a pivotal role in the Coyotes’ road sweep against Sonoma State and San Francisco State, en route to pushing CSUSB’s winning streak to three games.

She scored 26 points on 11-for-20 shooting and knocked down 13 rebounds in the 65-52 win over Sonoma State. The following night, she went for 22 points and 12 rebounds in the 56-52 victory over San Francisco State.

On the weekend, she averaged 24 points and 12.5 rebounds in just 56 total minutes of play.

She leads the Coyotes in scoring (14.9) and in rebounds (8.4) and has six double-doubles for 8-4 CSUSB.

Cal State San Bernardino to offer free admission to Thursday games

Cal State San Bernardino will offer free general admission and parking for Thursday’s men’s/women’s doubleheader against Cal State Stanislaus.

The Cal State men are currently 5-4 overall and 1-3 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play while Stanislaus, coached by former Coyotes coach Larry Reynolds, is 4-6, 1-2.

On the women’s side Cal State comes in with a record of 5-3, 2-2 in conference play. Stanislaus is 5-7, 3-0.

The handicapped and red zone parking restrictions will be observed for the games that begin with the women at 5:30 p.m. and the men at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Due to maintenance on campus Dec. 29-31, all vehicles on campus will be restricted to parking lots A, F, G, and H.  All other lots will be closed.  Student housing residents in Serrano Village and Arrowhead Village will be required to move their vehicles to parking lot F.

Roundup: Cal Poly Pomona soccer sweeps Humboldt State

Men’s Soccer
CAL POLY POMONA 5, HUMBOLDT STATE 0 >> Christian Gonzalez Diaz scored two of the Broncos’ five goals in the CCAA shutout victory against the Lumberjacks. Kris Korich had one goal and two assists for the Broncos (10-2-3, 7-2-2). CPP will play at 2 p.m. Saturday against Sonoma State.
SONOMA STATE 2, CS SAN BERNARDINO 1 >> After a scoreless first half for the Coyotes (3-9-3, 1-7-3), a second half goal by Diego Mendoza forced the Coyotes and the Seawolves in overtime. It took two overtime periods before the Seawolves (3-9-3, 1-7-3) prevailed as the victor in CCAA play. CS San Bernardino will play at 11:30 a.m. Saturday against Humboldt State.
Women’s Soccer
CAL POLY POMONA 2, HUMBOLDT STATE 1 >> The Broncos clinched a spot in the CCAA playoffs after a victory against the Lumberjacks. Daisy Buran scored a goal in the second half off an assist from Tori Tappero. CPP will play at 11:30 a.m. Saturday against Sonoma State.
SONOMA STATE 1, CS SAN BERNARDINO 0 >> The Seawolves’ Alex Sifuentes scored the lone goal that proved to be the difference in CCAA play against the Coyotes (4-10-3, 3-7-1). Goalkeeper Emily Whyte had five saves for the Coyotes in the loss. CS San Bernardino will play at 2 p.m.Saturday against Humboldt State.
