Cal State’s Jones earns second All-American honor

All-American Chelsey Jones

Cal State San Bernardino senior goalkeeper  Chelsey Jones earned a second All-American honor, this one from the National Soccer Coaches Association of American.

Jones, who earlier this fall was named a Capital One Academic All-American, was named to the NSCAA’s third team.

Jones, who was this season’s CCAA Defensive Player of the Year, set four school records and helped the Coyotes reach the NCAA West Region finals this year for the first time in school history. She set records in shutouts (season-13 and career-21) and victories (season-12 and career-23). She allowed just 17 goals in 23 games with a 0.70 GAA.

She is just the third Coyote in school history to earn both athletic and academic All-American honors in the same season, joining softball’s Anne Cordardo (1990) and volleyball’s Amy Pope (2001).
