Chaffey’s Andrew Dorado headed next headed to Kansas

Chaffey College baseball standout Andrew Dorado has decided his next step is to NAIA Sterling College in Kansas where he will join Panther teammate Isaiah Delsi.

Dorado, a native of West Covina, batted a state best .444 with seven doubles and 29 RBI.

He helped the Panthers to a three-way tie for first-place in the Foothill Conference with San Bernardino Valley and Rio Hondo.

Sterling ended its season with a 40-20 record and was eliminated from the national tournament in Jackson, Miss. in May. It marked the third straight 40-win season.

Chaffey baseball players make plan\s to move on

Chaffey College had a trip of players decide on their next step.

Outfielder Trevor Williams will stay closest to home and play at Cal State San Bernardino while infielder Mason Shiflett will go to West Texas A&M and right-handed pitcher Tanner Kiest to Central Michigan.

Shiflett (Riverside King) hit .303 with six doubles, two triples, 24 RBI and 31 runs scored.

Kiest (Yucaipa HS) was 3-5 with a 5.40 ERA in 11 appearances on the mound but had 70 strikeouts in 49 innings.

Williams (Riverside King) hit .284 with 22 RBI and 31 runs scored.

Chaffey’s Brendan Hornung improving after scarey incident on field

Chaffey College sophomore pitcher Brendan Hornung is on the road to recovery after a scarey incident last Wednesday.

He was on the mound in a game against Los Angeles Harbor last Wednesday when he was struck on the right temple with a line drive.

Panthers coach Jeff Harlow said it was a direct shot without the pitcher even being able to get a glove up to deflect the blow.

Hornung was transported by ambulance to Kaiser-Ontario, then moved to Kaiser-Fontana where he had immediate brain surgery.

Mother Sandy said Monday her son is improving. He is up taking short walks down the hall and can carry on a conversation although he tires quickly. If he continues to improve he could be released within a couple of days.

The players’ mother also credits the Chaffey coaching staff for their quick actions, possibly saving her son’s life.
