Justin Long, a graduate of Rancho Cucamonga High School and Chaffey College, is having quite a season with the men’s basketball team at NCAA Division II Hawaii Pacific.
Long is averaging 18.6 points and 4.7 rebounds. That scoring average is second in the Pac West Conference. His .936 free-throw percentage is also first.
His trademark long-distance shooting has been stellar. He has hit 23 of 46 tries.
Long scored 35 points for HPU in an 82-75 win over University of British Columbia on Wednesday.
Last month Long earned conference player of the week honors for his showing in a 79-69 win over BYU-Hawaii in which he tallied 19 points and seven rebounds.
D’on Hall, a product of Chaffey College, has been named Mid-South Conference Player of the Week.
Hall, who plays at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Ky., scored a career-high 20 points, going 9-of-9 from the line in 33 minutes against No. 14-ranked Philander Smith (Ark.) on Sunday.
He hit six straight free-throws in the final 1:47 to secure the Blue Raiders 72-59 win over the Panthers. Hall finished the game with four assists, three steals and five rebounds.
On the season, Hall is averaging 10.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. Hall has the third most points on the team with 113 and the fourth most rebounds with 46. Hall is second on the team in assists (23) and steals (12).
Hall has scored double-digits in seven of the teams 11 games this season and has not missed a free-throw shot since November 29 against Life (Ga.). Hall is 21-of-21 from the line since then and is shooting a team-high 87.9 percent from the line this season.
Chaffey College sophomore forward Pape Seck has made a verbal commitment to NCAA Division II Simon Fraser University in Canada.
Seck, a native of Senegal, will joins a squad that includes junior guards Sango Niang and Justin Cole, who played at Chaffey last year with Seck on a team that finished as state runner-up.
Seck is averaging 3.3 points and 3.4 rebounds in 11 minutes per game and is seen as an athlete raw in experience but with great potential.
