Depew, Lovrensky take SCIAC honors

Swimmers  Jeff Depew of the University of Redlands and Madie Lovrensky of University of La Verne are the SCIAC Athletes of the Week for their showing at last week’s SCIAC Championships.

Depew won all three of his individual events at the four-day meet at the Lillian Slade Aquatic Center in Whittier. He captured the title in the 200 individual medley (1:49.85), the 400 IM (3:57.72) and the 200 fly (1:47.58).

He also contributed to the top-four finishes of four Redlands relays, including the 200 Medley Relay (1:32.70) that had an NCAA B-cut.

Lovrensky also won three individual championships at the 2015 SCIAC Swimming and Diving Championships and was named the Female Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row.

The senior swept both backstroke events to go out undefeated in all SCIAC backstroke events — dual and championship — that she’s competed in her four-year career.

She won the first of her championships in the 50 yard free (23.62), then added the 100 back (55.59). Her most dominant event was the 200 back (2:02.78).

Over the weekend, Lovrensky broke La Verne records in the 50 freestyle, the 200 freestyle, and the 100 backstroke. She also broke two more as a part of the women’s 200 medley and 800 freestyle relay teams.
