Cal State San Bernardino’s back to back wins over nationally-ranked teams last month paid off in this week’s National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II men’s basketball rankings.

The Coyotes (7-1 overall) are in the top-25 poll for the first time this season at No. 19. They enter the 2014 portion of the season Friday night against No. 21 Chico State (7-1, 3-1 CCAA) on a seven-game winning streak and a perfect 4-0 slate in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Friday night’s contest against the nationally-ranked Wildcats marks the first time in nearly six seasons in which the Coyotes have played a game featuring two ranked teams. The last time that took place was Jan. 22, 2008, in San Bernardino when the 18th-ranked Coyotes defeated No. 17 Humboldt State 82-73.

The Coyotes ended the month of December with a 99-91 win over then-No. 5 Western Washington and an 85-65 win over No. 19 Midwestern State.

West Liberty (W. Va) is the country’s top-ranked team at 8-0.

The West Region features four other teams in the poll – No. 7 Dixie State, No. 11 Seattle Pacific, No. 15 Western Washington and No. 23 Alaska-Anchorage.
