Simon Fraser University junior Sango Niang has been named the Player of the Week in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

Niang, who led Chaffey to the community college state championship game a year ago, helped his team to a split last weekend with a win over Central Washington and the loss to Northwest Nazarene. He totaled 63 points and 21 assists in the two games.

In Thursday’s win Niang scored 36 points and added 21 assists leading the Clan to a 112-99 victory over CWU. He was only two rebounds away from his first career triple-double, as he recorded eight rebounds as well on the night.

On the season Niang is averaging 16.1 points and 5.7 assists for Simon Fraser, a Division II school located in Vancouver.

In the loss Niang, a graduate of Summit High School, tallied 27 points and 10 assists.

Over the weekend he made 19 of 29 field goal attempts and was a perfect 20 for 20 from the free-throw.
