Four area schools boast All-American tennis honorees

The West Region has always been particularly strong when it comes to NCAA Division III tennis. Well that has shown in the number of players from area schools who have been recognized as All-Americans by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

A player must meet any of the following criteria to earn ITA All-America honors:

Singles
1. Top 8 seed in NCAA singles tournament; 2. Win one round at NCAA singles tournament; 3. Finish in the Top 20 in the final ITA Rankings; 4. Win USTA/ITA Fall Regional Tournament; 5. Wins first-round match at the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships.

Doubles
1. Top 4 seed in NCAA doubles tournament; 2. Win one round at NCAA doubles tournament; 3. Finish in the Top 10 in the final ITA Rankings; 4. Win USTA/ITA Fall Regional Tournament; 5. Wins first-round match at the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships

The players honored are:

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men- Warren Wood, Joe Dorn, Skyler Butts, Nik Marino (All in singles. Wood-Dorn also in doubles

Pomona-Pitzer men – Chris Weichert, Antony Bello (doubles)

University of Redlands men – Patrick Lipscomb

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women – Caroline Ward (singles and doubles), Katie Kuosmen (doubles with Ward).

Pomona-Pitzer women – Samantha Chao, Lea Lynn Yen (doubles)

University of La Verne women – Andrea Madrigal (singles), Laina Matsuda-Jeanette Losaria (doubles).

University of Redlands women – Jessica Ly-Ceara Sumida (doubles).
