La Verne, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps volleyball still in national rankings

Two local teams remain in the NCAA Division III Volleyball rankings by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (14-4) is up one place to No. 10 while the University of La Verne (13-2) is up three spots to No. 20.

The SCIAC has a total of three teams ranked, led by No. 6 Cal Lutheran.

La Verne, CMS volleyball teams earn bids to NCAA regional

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and University of La Verne volleyball teams have been awarded at-large bids to the NCAA postseason tournament to be hosted by SCIAC champion Cal Lutheran.

The Athenas boast a 24-6 record and placed second in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) regular season and conference tournament.

CMS will face off against Mary Hardin-Baylor in the first round match on Thursday. It has played against five of the seven other teams in the regional this season.

La Verne earned the second at-large bid from SCIAC with a record of 20-6. It will play Trinity (Tex.) in its first contest.

Cal Lutheran enters 28-2 with its only losses on the season to CMS and Emory (Ga.). CLU won its fifth consecutive SCIAC title and this is its seventh straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
