Cal Poly Pomona’s Marsh named tops of the week

Ariel Marsh

Cal Poly Pomona junior Ariel Marsh has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for Nov. 25-Dec. 1.

The Chino Hills native led the Broncos to home victories over Cal State San Bernardino and Merrimack last week.

On Tuesday in the Broncos’ CCAA opener against the Coyotes, Marsh scored 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting from the field. CPP outscored San Bernardino 37-18 in the second half and went on to secure a 69-41 victory.

Saturday’s non-conference matchup with Merrimack proved to be a bit tougher for the Broncos, who outlasted the Warriors in an 88-81 shootout. Marsh was one of four CPP players in double figures as she tallied 19 points to go along with a career-high eight assists. At the free throw line, Marsh went a perfect 8-for-8.

So far this year, Marsh has knocked down 13 of her 15 free throw attempts for a percentage of 86.7 that ranks fifth among CCAA players. As a team, the Broncos are second in the league for free throw percentage.

Monday’s conference announcement marks the second time that Marsh, an Ayala High School graduate, has received the CCAA weekly honor. She earned the same accolade on Dec. 19, 2011, after a 31-point performance against Azusa Pacific.
