Roundup: Cal Poly Pomona soccer sweeps Humboldt State

Men’s Soccer
CAL POLY POMONA 5, HUMBOLDT STATE 0 >> Christian Gonzalez Diaz scored two of the Broncos’ five goals in the CCAA shutout victory against the Lumberjacks. Kris Korich had one goal and two assists for the Broncos (10-2-3, 7-2-2). CPP will play at 2 p.m. Saturday against Sonoma State.
SONOMA STATE 2, CS SAN BERNARDINO 1 >> After a scoreless first half for the Coyotes (3-9-3, 1-7-3), a second half goal by Diego Mendoza forced the Coyotes and the Seawolves in overtime. It took two overtime periods before the Seawolves (3-9-3, 1-7-3) prevailed as the victor in CCAA play. CS San Bernardino will play at 11:30 a.m. Saturday against Humboldt State.
Women’s Soccer
CAL POLY POMONA 2, HUMBOLDT STATE 1 >> The Broncos clinched a spot in the CCAA playoffs after a victory against the Lumberjacks. Daisy Buran scored a goal in the second half off an assist from Tori Tappero. CPP will play at 11:30 a.m. Saturday against Sonoma State.
SONOMA STATE 1, CS SAN BERNARDINO 0 >> The Seawolves’ Alex Sifuentes scored the lone goal that proved to be the difference in CCAA play against the Coyotes (4-10-3, 3-7-1). Goalkeeper Emily Whyte had five saves for the Coyotes in the loss. CS San Bernardino will play at 2 p.m.Saturday against Humboldt State.

Roundup: Redlands men’s soccer second in SCIAC after victory

Men’s soccer
REDLANDS 2, OCCIDENTAL 1 >> Chase Boone and Vidal Ornelas each scored a goal in the SCIAC victory over the Tigers. The victory places the Bulldogs (7-2-2, 5-2-1) second in the SCIAC standings. Redlands will play at 7 p.m. Monday against Caltech.
Men’s cross country
CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS >> Zorg Loustalet was the Stags’ top finisher with a time of 25 minutes and 15 seconds to place fifth overall on the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational’s 8K course. The Stags were second in the team standings. CMS will compete at 9:15 a.m. Oct. 17 in the SCIAC Multi-Duals at La Mirada Park.

REDLANDS >> The Bulldogs finished seventh in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational. Abhinav Nagpal of the Bulldogs finished in 46th place with a time of 26:41.70 in the 8K race. Redlands will compete at 9 a.m. Oct. 17 in the SCIAC Multi-Duals at La Mirada Park.

Women’s cross country
CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS >> The Athenas finished third out of 15 teams in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational’s 6K race. The Athenas had three athletes finish in the top 15, led by Bridget Blum, who finished in 22:18 to place 10th. CMS will compete at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 17 in the SCIAC Multi-Duals at La Mirada Park.

REDLANDS >> Senior Lauren Roberts was the Bulldogs’ top finisher, taking fifth in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational 6K race with a time of 21:59.65. The Bulldogs’ Jessika Snincsak was 35th with a time of 23:16.95. Redlands finished sixth in the team standings. Redlands will compete at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 17 in the SCIAC Multi-Duals at La Mirada Park.

CS SAN BERNARDINO 1, CAL POLY POMONA 1 >> The Coyotes (4-3-3) and the Broncos (5-3-1) finished in a tie after two scoreless overtime periods in CCAA play. Stephanie Rodriguez scored the lone goal for the Broncos off an assist from Ariana Fleischman. Gabby Evaristo scored the Coyotes’ only goal off an assist from Ebony Squier.
Volleyball
CAL LUTHERAN 3, REDLANDS 0 >> Marisa Gile had eight kills for the Bulldogs (5-10, 1-6) in their 25-17, 25-16, 25-14 SCIAC loss. Michelle Lawrence led the Regals with 11 kills. Redlands will play at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS 3, OCCIDENTAL 1 >> Shelbi Stein had 15 kills for the Athenas in the SCIAC victory over the Tigers, 25-23, 25-21, 21-25, 25-12. Margaux Arntson contributed 14 kills while Kandace Korver had 21 digs.

CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS 3, CHAPMAN 0 >> Margaux Arntson and Nicole Kerkhof each had 12 kills for the Athenas (14-4, 4-2) in the SCIAC victory over the Panthers, 25-19, 25-14, 25-14. CMS will play at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday against Redlands.

Cody Ponce officially signs with the Milwaukee Brewers organization

Cody Ponce of Cal Poly Pomona has officially signed with the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
Ponce was taken in the second round of the 2015 MLB Draft out of Cal Poly Pomona.

He will begin his professional career as a member of the Helena Brewers, which is a rookie affiliate of the Brewers.
