A preliminary hearing for two men accused of the deadly shooting a 19-year-old woman outside of the El Patio nightclub in Rialto got underway Thursday afternoon but won’t be completed until next week, according to court records.
The hearing for defandants Jose Vizcarra and Nefi Bogard Tejeda, who are suspected in the death of Brizeida Campos of Rialto, will resume at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Fontana Superior Court, the records indicate.
Campos was with a group of friends who became involved in the fight outside the club that escalated into a shooting on Apr. 16, 2007.
At Thursday’s hearing, witnesses Jorge Amador and Maria Rocha were on the witness stand.
After the shooting, the crowd got into two separate vehicles, both which crashed about a block from each other along Foothill Boulevard, Rialto Police said in an earlier report. Campos was found suffering from trauma to her chest and head in the rear seat of one of the vehicles, San Bernardino County Coroner’s officials said.
Campos died the next day at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, in Rialto. A man who was also struck by gunfire was taken to a hospital where he was treated and released.
Tejeda faces five counts which include murder and two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Two other counts, hit and run resulting in injury and evading an officer causing injury, are not part of the preliminary hearing, according to court records.
Vizcarra is charged with one count of murder and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
