Woman killed after car collides with train

|

CORONA- A woman was struck by a train and killed after she drove her 1994 Lexus around the lowered crossing arms, Friday afternoon.
Corona police officers responded to the 200 block of North Sheridan Street at 4:11 p.m. after receiving calls about a Metrolink commuter train versus a vehicle, according to a police statement.
When they arrived, they found an unconscious female inside the car. Paramedics responded and pronounced the driver dead. No one else was in the car, authorities said.
Preliminary information suggests the Lexus was traveling south on Sheridan and began to stop for the Railroad crossing arms which were flashing red and already lowered.
The driver then drove around the crossing arms and was hit by the Metrolink that was traveling east approaching the Main Street station.
The 600 passengers on the train were not injured. However, one of the passengers had to be taken to a local hospital for an anxiety attack.
The incident is still under investigation. The victim has not yet been identified.
