Just got a copy of a memo from Caltrans:
Caltrans and MCM Construction will be opening the northbound I-215 to the westbound SR-210 connector on Thursday morning, 12/22/11. This opening comes 15 months ahead of schedule. MCM Construction and Caltrans have worked diligently to get this connector open as they recognize the importance to motorists.
This connector will reduce travel time as motorists will not have to exit the freeway in order to make this transition. It will also reduce traffic on local city streets.
The eastbound SR-210 to southbound I-215 connector is scheduled to open in March of 2012 at least nine months ahead of schedule.
The southbound SR-259 will close from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. through Thursday (December 22). For a detour, Caltrans is suggesting to exit the southbound SR-259 at Highland Avenue, turn left, then right on H Street and re-enter southbound I-215 at Orange Street (just below Base Line).
Also on those dates, various lanes on north- and southbound on I-215 between Rialto Avenue and University Parkway will close (southbound from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., northbound between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.). No detours are planned, as at least one lane is expected to be open.
A milestone should be reached this week as the northbound I-215 to the westbound SR-210 connector is scheduled to open mid-week.

Update: Work on the northbound side will continue from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday (January 25) through Thursday (January 27), just south of the truck scales that are just south of SR138.
At least two lanes will be open at all time.
Caltrans is suggesting the following detour/non-detour: "LA County motorists going to the High Desert area or toward Barstow, Baker and Vegas may use I-5 north to SR-14 toward Palmdale, then take SR-138 east to SR-18 back to I-15. Inland Empire or Orange County motorists traveling I-15 northbound this week are advised to avoid travel during work hours."
The work will be done from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday on southbound lanes between Oak Hill Road and Cleghorn Road.
At least one lane will be open at all times, but Caltrans is warning to expect delays of up to four hours.
Once the southbound lanes are repaired (Caltrans is estimating a week or so), work will switch to the northbound side.
The entire project is expected to be complete January 28.

Caltrans is also offering these holiday driving safety tips:
- Never drink and drive and always use seatbelts and child restraints.
- Bring chains if you are traveling to mountain areas - it is recommended to have chains in your vehicle during winter months. Make sure your gas tank is full before going up the hill. Go to www.dot.ca.gov/hq/traffops/trucks/ops-guide/chains.html for more chain information.
- Chain installers are available on most mountain routes during chain control - please use the Caltrans approved installers with authorized bibs - for your safety and to protect your vehicle. Unauthorized vendors are subject to prosecution.
- For long trips - bring water, warm clothing/blankets, medications, snacks and other necessary items.
- Listen to local radio stations or check traffic reports on television for traffic conditions on the routes you plan to travel.
- Don't go around road closure signs in the event of inclement weather conditions. Never drive through running water or flooded roadways.
- Be a safe and courteous driver. It only adds a few minutes to your travel time and makes it a better drive for everyone.

For the next three to four weeks, construction crews will be doing intermittent traffic control between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. There will be no roadwork May 21-23 during the AMGEN Tour of California bike race.
A 12-mile stretch of the highway was closed March 16 after a pipe running about 80 feet below the highway collapsed.
The I-215 widening project continues with a particularly burdensome closure for downtown commuters: 2nd Street will be closed between G and I streets for eight weeks beginning at 7 a.m. Monday (April 26). That's through June 18, by my calculation.
That's on top of the two-year closure of the southbound 27th Street on-ramp and and northbound 27th Street off-ramp and the six-week closure (five weeks remaining) of the connector from the southbound I-215 to the eastbound SR-210.
Add to that various on- and off-ramp and lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday (April 25) through Thursday (April 29) and you've got a definite reason to avoid I-215 at night.
