Southbound 1-215 construction in north San Bernardino this week

|
Shoulder work will close the #1 lane (which means only one lane will remaine open) on the southbound I-215 from Palm Avenue to University Parkway this week.

The work will be done from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday (January 10) through Thursday (January 12).

Northbound I-215 to westbound SR-210 connector to open tomorrow

|
Just got a copy of a memo from Caltrans:

Caltrans and MCM Construction will be opening the northbound I-215 to the westbound SR-210 connector on Thursday morning, 12/22/11. This opening comes 15 months ahead of schedule. MCM Construction and Caltrans have worked diligently to get this connector open as they recognize the importance to motorists.

This connector will reduce travel time as motorists will not have to exit the freeway in order to make this transition. It will also reduce traffic on local city streets.

The eastbound SR-210 to southbound I-215 connector is scheduled to open in March of 2012 at least nine months ahead of schedule.

I-215 widening project construction, December 19 to 22

|
The southbound SR-259 will close from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. through Thursday (December 22). For a detour, Caltrans is suggesting to exit the southbound SR-259 at Highland Avenue, turn left, then right on H Street and re-enter southbound I-215 at Orange Street (just below Base Line).

Also on those dates, various lanes on north- and southbound on I-215 between Rialto Avenue and University Parkway will close (southbound from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., northbound between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.). No detours are planned, as at least one lane is expected to be open.

A milestone should be reached this week as the northbound I-215 to the westbound SR-210 connector is scheduled to open mid-week.

I-10 to I-215 connector to close Saturday

|
The westbound I-10 connector to southbound I-215 will close from 6 a.m. to noon Saturday (December 10) for maintenance work.

Possible alternatives include:

  • Continuing westbound to Valley Boulevard, heading west on Valley to Mount Vernon Avenue, crossing over the freeway and re-entering eastbound I-10 to the southbound I-215
  • Heading north on I-215, exiting at Orange Show Road, crossing over the freeway and entering the southbound I-215

I-215 widening project construction, August 7-11

|
The southbound SR-259 will close from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.nightly Sunday (August 7) through Thursday (August 11) as part of the ongoing I-215 widening project.

Caltrans is suggesting the following detour: Exit Highland Avenue from SR-259, turn left, turn right on H Street and travel south, entering southbound I-215 from the Orange Street onramp.

Also, the northbound Highland Avenue offramp from SR-259 is closed through 5 a.m. Monday (August 8). Caltrans is suggesting continuing to the E Street offramp and turning right to Highland Avenue.

Plus, the Second Street onramp to southbound I-215 is closed through 3 p.m. Monday (August 8). Caltrans is suggesting traveling south on either G or I streets to Mill Street to enter southbound I-215.

In addition, Third Street will close between G and I streets from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday (August 7) and Second Street will close between G and I streets from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Thursday (August 11). In both cases, Caltrans is suggesting traveling south on either G or I streets to Rialto Avenue to cross under I-215.

I-10/I-215 connectors to close (briefly) this weekend

|
The area around the Guthrie Interchange will see some maintenance construction activity this weekend, but the time frames are short, so it shouldn't cause too much of a problem.

From 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday (July 31), the southbound I-215 connectors to east- and westbound I-10 will be closed to replace stolen electrical wiring and miscellaneous maintenance repairs.

From 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday (July 31), the westbound I-10 connectors to north- and southbound I-215 will be closed for miscellaneous maintenance repairs.

Also, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, the Inland Center Drive offramp of northbound I-215 will close for guardrail repair.

Southbound SR-259 to close several nights next week

|
Next week's 215 widening project-related construction will be more tolerable than this week's.

The only full closure will be the southbound SR-259, which will close from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. nightly, Sunday (July 17) through Thursday (July 21).

Caltrans' suggested detour: Head south on SR-259 from westbound SR-210, exit Highland Avenue, turn left to H Street, right on H Street to Orange Street and turn right and enter southbound I-215.

Also, the Massachusetts Avenue bridge remains closed while the switch is made from the old bridge to the new bridge. It is scheduled to reopen July 25.

Various lane closures will take place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly, Sunday (July 17) to Thursday (July 21) on both north- and southbound I-215 between Rialto Avenue and University Parkway, but at least one lane will remain open, so no detours are necessary.

|
A white Toyota struck the center divider on the northbound 215 Freeway north of Mount Vernon Avenue, blocking the fast lane. The CHP received a report of several people in lanes pushing the vehicle.
The I-215 widening project continues with a particularly burdensome closure for downtown commuters: 2nd Street will be closed between G and I streets for eight weeks beginning at 7 a.m. Monday (April 26). That's through June 18, by my calculation.

That's on top of the two-year closure of the southbound 27th Street on-ramp and and northbound 27th Street off-ramp and the six-week closure (five weeks remaining) of the connector from the southbound I-215 to the eastbound SR-210.

Add to that various on- and off-ramp and lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday (April 25) through Thursday (April 29) and you've got a definite reason to avoid I-215 at night.
