For those who haven't finished their holiday shopping, the folks at Lakewood Center want to help.
Officials at the shopping center Dec. 23 and Dec. 24 will set up for the first time a "Procrastination Station" for the 11th-hour shopper racing to cross the holiday shopping finish line.
Located at the guest services center near Macy's, the station is offering last-minute shoppers a place to fuel up on free coffee from Panera and snacks and to receive quick gifts tips, perfect for those still undecided about what to give this holiday season, said senior marketing manager Annette Bryant.
Lakewood Center worked with retailers to find out what the "hot items" are, she said.
"This just gives people a little extra help this holiday season on that last day or last couple of days," said Allison McGee Johnson, a spokeswoman for the mall.
Lakewood Center is one of several shopping centers in the nation capitalizing on the latest holiday consumer trend -- the last-minute shopper.
The average person had finished less than half (46.7 percent) of their shopping at the beginning of this week, according to a National Retail Federation survey.
"Retailers know the final lap counts the most and are planning to emphasize promotions and discounts to bring in last-minute shoppers," according to Tracy Mullin, president and CEO of the National Retail Federation. "As Christmas Day creeps closer, retailers will be ready for an influx of procrastinators, from those who are checking the final names off their list to millions who haven't even started shopping."
Lakewood Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday at 500 Lakewood Center.
