Tesla Motors, the electric car company currently in talks with Long Beach and Downey over where to build the assembly plant for its Model S sedan, is looking to open its first Orange County dealership.

Tesla spokesman Ricardo Reyes today confirmed a media report that the San Carlos-based company is in negotiations over a dealership space along Newport Harbor's Mariner's Mile.

Reyes said nothing has been finalized. According to the Orange County Register, Tesla is eyeing the dealership vacated by Rolls-Royce in 2008 and that plans come up for city approval as early as March 1.

Founded in 2003, Tesla is known for its Roadster, a $100,000-plus sports car that can go from 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds.
