October 2008 Archives
IEUA provides imported water to local water providers, including Rancho Cucamonga, bridging the gap between water demand and local supplies. Imported water is 50% of our total supply. But legal challenges and drought now threaten our imported supply.
There is enough water to meet our needs, but none to waste. Years ago, I recognized that imported water supplies would not be sustainable, especially if we keep using drinking water for all of our needs. So, I led IEUA to launch a very aggressive water plan and public education campaign: Water Conservation and Water Recycling.
Water conservation is a stewardship principle: Water saved today is water for tomorrow. IEUA's in-home conservation program has reduced household water consumption by 10%.
But there is more to do <WC>--<WC1> outside.
My vision is to reduce drinking water usage another 30% within 3 years. It's doable and saving water saves you money. For example, landscape uses 60% of our drinking water and nearly half of that water is wasted every day! Resetting irrigation to avoid runoff, installing water efficient sprinklers, reducing turf area and planting ornate, low demand plants are ways to reduce our monthly water bill up to 30%!
Through IEUA I implemented a plan to save you more money through local rebate programs for high-efficiency washing machines, water softener devices, irrigation controllers and turf removal/replacement. (See IEUA.org for rebates<WC>.<WC1>)
I believe water stewardship also means "the right water for the right purpose." Water used in our public landscape equals the water needs of 100,000 homes! We shouldn't irrigate our public areas with our drinking water! Under my plan we have accelerated our 10-year program to stop using drinking water on our green public landscapes. By late next year IEUA will be providing recycled water to over 1/3 of all the public spaces in our cities, and replace the use of drinking water in all public landscape within 3 years.
Meeting our water supply challenges requires vision, strong leadership, innovation and tough public policy decisions. Under my leadership, IEUA has set new industry standards for water sustainability and green innovation, yet has maintained low service rates to our communities.
Your vote to re-elect Wyatt Troxel will continue our vision for sustainable and safe water supply and a stable future.
In 2002, I founded Operation Community Cares, a grass roots support campaign that sends care packages to deployed soldiers around the world. Witnessing firsthand the appreciation and emotion from the soldiers' families, intensified my commitment to the Rancho Cucamonga community, leading to my candidacy as City Treasurer. Adding another layer to my community service, on October 2nd I was proudly sworn in as a local reserve police officer.
As an account executive in the local real estate market, I've kept my finger on the pulse of the Rancho Cucamonga community, working closely with local business owners, community leaders, and city officials. I've held leadership positions, many that include oversight of financial affairs, for a number of professional associations, including: Inland Empire United Way (Board Member), Rancho Cucamonga Chamber of Commerce, West End Real Estate Professionals (President), Citrus Valley Association of Realtors, and California Association of Mortgage Brokers.
If elected City Treasurer, I intend to bring a new vigor and sense of energy that parallels Rancho Cucamonga's rapid growth.
Respectfully acknowledging the efforts of our incumbent over the past 24 years, the position has become largely complacent, without clear expectations and tools to measure success. Under my management, I will address this complacency, introducing new levels of:
*Accountability:Defining clear job duties, requirements, and responsibilities, and working with City Officials to determine quantifiable goals.
*Communication: Opening and enhancing lines of effective communication, ultimately improving relations with City Council, City Staff, and Rancho Cucamonga Residents.
A family man married for seven years and boasting two beautiful children, I share your concern for our families within our city. I will maintain Rancho Cucamonga's reputation as a safe and wonderful place to raise our children, and will keep this core value close when making investment and financial decisions for our community.
With my knowledge of Rancho Cucamonga, passion and demonstrated commitment to my community, and track record of professional success, I pledge to ensure the future financial stability and growth of our city. I stand proud to be a resident of Rancho Cucamonga and ready to be your city servant.
I have supported programming that creates healthy lifestyles but fiscal responsibility too. We have a healthy reserve despite the economic downturn of our nation. We continue to attract sales tax producers that will produce businesses and jobs. One of our biggest challenges has started to be realized with the planning and implementation of ways to eliminate traffic congestion. Not only for the City of Fontana but by participating with other cities in our region we are coming closer to construction of the various interchanges we need to move our traffic.
Public Safety is still the priority in our city with the addition of 65 officers, the establishment of the Fontana Fire Protection District for fire services with San Bernardino County and added citywide paramedic coverage. Our outreach to provide servicing doesn't stop there. We have re-opened the Fontana Teen Center and established after school programming for our youth and children thru the Smart Kids Program with Fontana Unified School District and the Boys and Girls Club of Fontana. We funded and built community centers throughout our community including the new construction of the Jessie Turner Health and Fitness Center scheduled to be showcased at the opening of our new Fontana Park in late October.
Our Civic Center is now the showcase of the Inland Empire with our newly constructed Lewis Library an Technology Center, Center Stage and Downtown Pacific Electric Trail. I had the honor of mobilizing our community to name the Children's Section of the library after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. where we give each child a bookmark with the non-violence pledge to learn. This effort has made me realize the importance of my election to continue to work toward eliminating violence in our community. We still have our youth dropping out of school and we need to continue to build a better future for the families of Fontana and I will continue when elected to serve those needs. www.Acquanetta.org
After being urged by numerous friends and fellow elected officials, I decided to give up my council seat to run for Mayor in this election. My experience on numerous regional boards will serve the residents of Pomona well if I am elected Mayor.
Most problems we face are regional in nature. Pomona cannot solve them alone. I am currently Chairman of the Alameda Corridor East Construction Authority, Vice Chairman of the Gold Line Construction Authority, Treasurer of the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments, and Chairman of the SGVCOG Emergency Services and Trauma Care Ad Hoc Committee. These positions have been important in bringing additional financial resources to Pomona and our neighboring cities that would not have been available to us had I not personally been there to fight for our fair share.
I can cite paramedic/firefighting helicopter assigned to our area for trauma care, the "quiet zone" for railroad traffic, and new street underpasses to avoid long delays at railroad intersections.
In addition to my regional positions, I have substantial local experience to bring to the office of Mayor. I have served or am serving as Chairman and a co-founder of the Pomona Anti-Crime Taskforce, a member of the Fairplex Blue Ribbon Committee, the Vehicle Parking District Ad-Hoc Committee, the Pomona/PUSD Liaison Committee, and the Pomona Planning Commission, among others. I am currently the Emergency Operations Coordinator for the Pomona Unified School District.
One accomplishment of which I am proud is the reinstatement of the annual Pomona Holiday Lane celebration which is the largest civic event in Pomona.
I have a number of specific goals in mind to accomplish in the next 4 years. One major goal will be to pass an Ethics Ordinance for the City Council -- an effort that was killed last year but which I intend to bring back as Mayor.
I have been endorsed by the Pomona City Employees (San Bernardino County Employees Association) and Pomona Police Officers Association. These are the people in the trenches doing the day to day work of our City. To continue my efforts, I need your Vote November 4.
If elected, one of my top priorities would be to increase parent representation at the school district. The district currently has the Wellness and Strategic Planning Committees. These committees are largely made up of administrators, staff, the District Superintendent and assistant superintendents. Out of 16 schools, only 2 parents are involved in each committee. It is my intention to have parent representatives from each school belong to these committees.
As recommended by the State Superintendent, Jack O'Connell, "High quality physical education is essential for the development of children." Our district needs high quality physical education programs with qualified physical education instructors.
Studies by the State Superintendent cite increased student performance in Math and Language Arts in conjunction with high quality P.E. programs. Our children need to be taught habits that will last a lifetime. In addition, cutting the fats from school lunches and substituting with processed high calorie foods won't keep our children from becoming obese. We need to provide more natural, wholesome foods. I am determined to improve student lunches and P.E. programs.
I will also lobby for equalization of state funding for the Etiwanda School District. We are the lowest funded district in San Bernardino County and we pay some of the highest taxes in the area. We need to get our legislators involved. We will need bi-partisan support. I am the candidate who has been endorsed by state congress members from both parties, Senator Gloria Negrete-McLeod and Assemblyman Bill Emmerson.
My experience at various levels in PTA has allowed me to listen to the concerns of parents throughout the district. Your views and opinions are important to me. It would also be my pleasure to answer any questions. Please visit my website at www.canjura4esb.com or e-mail me at info@canjura4esb.com. I appreciate your vote on November 4th so I can implement these essential objectives and bring a new perspective to the district.
I want to improve the quality of life for those that work, play, and live within the great City of Pomona.
Our children are our future! Providing our children with extracurricular activities to participate in after school, on the weekend, and throughout the year is crucial for their development.
Increasing youth programs will keep our children active, healthy and engaged. In addition, providing programs for youth will discourage them from joining gangs, contributing to vandalism, and other activities that destroy our communities. By providing additional athletic spaces we can give our youth a place they will enjoy.
Public safety, a top priority as it is vital to ensure the safety of all our residents, our children, and our seniors. We must work in collaboration with our public safety officials to discuss the different needs each neighborhood requires.
Importantly, we must actively promote and work with our neighborhood watch organizations to preserve our neighborhoods and keep them safe.
Also, investing in Pomona's local businesses is the key to our financial future! The city needs an economic plan that will benefit the community, and increase our tax base (revenue) to provide the resources Pomona needs to prosper.
By working in partnership with the business community we can develop a much needed shopping environment to fit the needs of the residents. Pomona needs leadership that will foster business development, create new jobs, and increase job retention.
Protecting our environment is an important aspect in providing our families and children with a healthy environment. With over 160,000 residents, we need to provide additional recreational park space for our children to play and grow.
Enforcement of all codes in the city is essential, as this shows that the community is concerned about the appearance of its neighborhoods. Maintaining prosperous neighborhoods is a priority for me and that is why we need to work together to address all issues. Continuing in the tradition of graffiti abatement, we must work closely to ensure that vandalism does not take hold of our city by working at the root of the problem.
Many of our roads, streets and other public spaces must be cared for and maintained. Our roads need to be re-paved; medians need careful attention to assist our efforts to beautify this city.
I ask for your support and VOTE on November 4th. www.PrimoCastro.com
When our Councilmember moved, I put my hat in the ring to bring Common Sense back to City Hall. I was elected as part of a team that did just that. Within two years the bickering stopped, and teamwork prevailed.
There have been some dramatic improvements. Home Depot, Wal-Mart, and Ranch<WC> <WC1>Plaza Shopping center are now a reality. Metrolink has two stations here, and 20 years of a vacant lot at Mission and Garey has been replaced with Starbucks, Quiznos, UPS, and a great Sushi restaurant, as well as about 20 loft-style homes.
But my greatest emphasis has been on Building Community, and bringing more dollars in to help with that. After several Community Meetings and surveys, we have applied for a Grant that will bring <WC>a half-<WC1>million dollars into District 4 for more Policing and more Programs. We have 10 more Police Officers, a Community Center, new Ball Fields, and Speed Humps, all as the result of Neighborhood meetings, Council Teamwork, and my persistence. Every street in District 4 now has streetlights, and we're adding more. That's literally hundreds of lights and millions of dollars... Common Sense, and Dollars and Cents put right where they're needed, back in your neighborhood.
Ultimately, Building community is really about you, your neighborhood, and how we all can work together. It's about Unity in the Community, not division.
We need to be the change we want to see.
Years ago I promised to focus on Issues, not Individuals. I've kept that promise!
I also promised to make decisions based on what's best for Pomona, not special Interests. I've kept that promise! Experienced and Independent, I am Leadership you can Trust.

As a member of the Upland Unified School District Board of Trustees since 2001, I have worked as part of the governance team to ensure that Upland students are afforded the best public education possible. Student performance continues to rise year after year for all students while we narrow the achievement gap for underperforming students.
I volunteered alongside fellow community members to pass the original Measure K in 2000, a $36 million bond measure to improve the infrastructure of Upland's aging schools. The bond funds also provided for multi-purpose rooms, and the Upland High School library expansion, among other things. Thanks in large part to the success of the original Measure K, Upland voters passed a second Measure K in 2008 for $103 million that will allow for safety and energy improvements and the addition of 21st century classrooms to all Upland schools. As part of the oversight team that led to the successful completion of the original Measure K, I look forward to working in that same capacity with Measure K 2008.
As a founding member of the Upland Community Partnership for Youth Development in 1995, I volunteer with other community members to create and sustain neighborhood-based afterschool programs serving K-6 students in Upland. Additionally, as a 15 year member of the Kiwanis Club of Upland I work on community projects and help raise funds to better the lives of children.
I understand and value the power of community collaboration, which is a key factor in everything from creating ways to keep kids safe, both during and after school, to passing a bond measure to ensure that Upland schools are the safest, most technologically advanced learning environments in the region.
Your support ensures that we will continue to work together to produce outstanding graduates and citizens from Upland Unified School District.
NAME: James V. Curatalo, Jr.; Age: 53; OCCUPATION: Board Member, Cucamonga Valley Water District
PERSONAL: Married, 3 children; Rancho Cucamonga resident 22 years; Battalion Chief, Rancho Cucamonga Fire District, 23 years of service; President, CVWD Board, 9 years of service
It has been an honor to serve you on the Board of Directors of the Cucamonga Valley Water District.
During my term of office, we have established 6 new wells, increased water production from 38 to 62 million gallons per day, increased water storage capacity from 70 to over 90 million gallons, and established a Recycled Water Program which will save millions of gallons of high quality drinking water.
Water is vitally important to our future. Drought, pollution and rising demands challenge our water supply. I will continue to do my best to make the right policy decisions and implement the strategic plans which we have developed to ensure clean, abundant and affordable drinking water for our community.
With your continued support I pledge to commit to:
·High quality Drinking Water at Affordable Rates
·Fight against Pollution and Contamination
·Expansion of our Recycled Water Distribution System
·Manage our Water Resources to the benefit of Future Generations
Thank you for your support.
James V. Curatalo, Jr.
Throughout my career I have been dedicated in my efforts to represent the best interests highest standards, and educational needs of children. My record of achievement points to the fact that I have been very successful in building learning and teaching environments where children always come first, and teachers are respected and celebrated for their dedication and expertise. That success has also been built on the belief that all stakeholders should have a voice in the decision making process, and that open, honest discussion and collaboration is key to problem solving and in setting direction for the future.
I believe that as a Board member and as a school community, we must be committed to excellence in all that we do, and that we concentrate on PEOPLE, big and little, as the centerpiece of the educational process. I believe too, that we must continually strive toward improvement in the quality of curriculum, and embrace best teaching practices that demonstrate increased student achievement while addressing the needs of their future. We must, as a school community, be agents of change for positive, long lasting improvement of our public schools.
Unfortunately, for the foreseeable future, many challenges face California schools, including Alta Loma School District. State funding for schools, federal and state program reductions, declining enrollment, and penalties contained in No Child Left Behind legislation are all concerns needing to be addressed by our Board, district administration, and the school community. There are no easy or quick fixes. However, I know that by working together, we can meet the challenges that lie ahead and at the same time continue to improve our excellent schools.
I believe that my record of success as a school site principal, my insight and knowledge of the educational community, and my years of hands on experience in California schools, all point toward my ability to make positive contributions to the Alta Loma School Board, the children, and the Alta Loma School Community. Your help in allowing me to make those contributions will be appreciated when you vote for Dave Roberts on November 4th.
Since I was first elected I introduced much of the work in progress to revitalize Pomona. I led annual community clean-ups, providing dumpsters for our residents' use.
I voted to install new public restrooms, snack bars and play equipment at our parks. I led the effort to landscape medians throughout the city. I fought for resurfacing of streets throughout the entire city.
More needs to be done to many of our streets; the cracked and worn-out roads must be resurfaced. I helped fund new lighting and facade improvements thought our neighborhoods. The Veterans Park soccer complex is open for all to enjoy.
This is my five-point plan for Pomona
1. PUBLIC SAFETY: Keeping Pomona's families safe is my top priority. I have always voted to increase our police force. Crime is unacceptable.
2. OUR YOUTH: We should provide more mentoring opportunities. I am committed to the city's Youth and Family Master Plan. We must ensure our children stay out of gangs and away from drugs.
3. HELPING SENIOR CITIZENS: I am an advocate of the Pomona Senior Centers, which provide abundant activities and assistance programs for our city's Senior Citizens. I will fight to ensure these services DO NOT get cut.
4. ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY: I implemented a citywide gray-water policy to reduce our use of fresh water. I sponsored the construction of Veterans' Park, Pomona's first completely environmentally conscious park. I will implement green planning codes, and I will fight to protect our open spaces for everyone's enjoyment.
5. ECONOMIC GROWTH & PROSPERITY: I helped reduce the city's operating budget and fought to keep utilities and services as inexpensive as possible. I opposed levying new taxes and I removed extraneous expenses. As mayor I will focus on job growth by continuing to attract businesses to Pomona.
I have demonstrated the ability to solve problems and bring results.
Please vote Elliott Rothman for Mayor of Pomona.
The Governing Board members must lead by example and not just by words during lean or prosperous times. As a Governing Board Member, I will utilize sound fiscal judgment when considering School Bonds and not forward an unneeded Bond (Measure S) of $20,000,000, which was soundly defeated.
I have been a student, teacher, parent and PTA room parent within the Upland Unified School District. I have worked and volunteered in the public/private field of education and social work for over 31 years. I will bring a positive commitment to improving the quality of education for all students in our district.
Three out of five of our current governing board members is a retired or present probation officer. A broader perspective is necessary in order to formulate, evaluate and administer the policies and procedures of the U.U.S.D..
Further, our children need to be involved in special programs such as academic decathlon teams, music, band, GATE, athletics or they frequently struggle to remain involved in education.
Another problem that I see is having board meetings scheduled twice per month and only having town hall meetings when facing either a crisis or major funding issues such as bond measures. I would propose having regularly scheduled town hall meetings at least twice during the school year.
In the 21st century, our school facilities need upgraded infrastructure. Our schools are severely lacking in computer technologies, programs and immediate technical assistance. I will be a good steward of your money from Measure K and insure that it is used to upgrade our schools infrastructure.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a County Manager, I have been educated and trained to maintain and acquire a broad working perspective. I will bring this awareness that the Board is in partnership with the greater community to provide a quality education for all of our children. Input from parents and teachers are paramount to this task, especially when the Board and school management experience community and family challenges.

Instead, Pomona is an economic failure, due to irresponsible spending by our city politicians, who serve the needs of special interests groups, rather than the common needs of all residents.
Imagine, instead of wasting $11.9 million on a failed real estate deal across the street from City Hall, this money could have gone to create a safer, cleaner community, lower the 9% utility tax, create more opportunities for our youth, and, more jobs for Pomona residents!
In order to revive Pomona, you first need to have leadership that will stop the wasteful spending of our tax dollars. As a former councilman ('89-'93), I led the only effort to successfully reduce the utility tax, and I consistently fought against the wasteful practices of subsidizing big real-estate developers. I was an agent for change.
In contrast, the two councilmen running for mayor, George Hunter and Elliot Rothman, are front-men for the special interests groups--a combination of contending developers, government unions and businesses-- that divide our City, while depleting its finances. The big-money behind Hunter and Rothman are trying to buy the current election with lots of slick brochures attempting to fool Pomona voters into believing that their candidate will do the right thing. But neither has, during their nearly decade each in office: that is why our City now faces a financial disaster. Electing either Hunter or Rothman insures that Pomona will continue its downward decline toward stagnation, unable to address the serious issues confronting our City.
With 25 years of diverse community service, I have the experience and commitment to help make the difficult changes required for Pomona's turnaround. I advocate decisive government reform: stop the waste and giveaway of taxpayer money; restructure government services to focus on key community priorities; lower the excessive costs and bureaucracy for city residents and businesses.
I am also committed to helping build local neighborhood councils that will prepare citizens to better govern and improve our city - these councils will help end the rule of special interests groups in Pomona.
Government reform will lead to community rebirth.
I am the only qualified candidate that is willing to stand up for all of Pomona against the powerful special interest groups that have dominated our City. I appeal to the citizenry to help "Take Back Our City."

I, John "JP" Pomierski as your second term Mayor: would appreciate the challenge to continue serving the Citizens of UPLAND.
Everyone knows how far the City of Upland has come in the last 8 years but lets take a walk down memory lane to when the City was 2 million dollars in debt, resulting in employee layoffs and poor employee morale and for good reason: they had not received any raises for 9 years prior to my election. The library was closing additional days, contracting out Police and Fire services were being considered and streets, sidewalks and trees were in total disrepair.
Under my new leadership, the theme of Teamwork was stressed to my colleagues. We all had to work together and get this City back to business. Since then we've approved a trash contract, improved employee compensation and morale and purchased new equipment and vehicles for Police, Fire and Public Works departments. Added Paramedics and welcomed new Developments like the Cable Business Park/The Colonies/The Crossings and College Park to mention a few. We annexed property on the westend to improve and control standards there and continue to add to our City Parks and Recreational opportunities. With my direction and need for more Open Government, the City now posts Financial records of the City Council and all Council business on our website for all to view. With the motto I introduced: "Treat It Like You Own It" to the City and Staff, we are now moving forward even in these tough econonmic and uncertain times.
Who would have thought that Upland would be perfectly positioned to stand tall 8 years ago and continue embarking upon new projects. We are presently building our 4th Firestation and a new Animal Serices Shelter at Memorial Park and just completed a 46 acre recharge basin on the west end of town. We are in the opening phase of grading for our new Regional Sports Park along with continuing Commercial Development at The Colonies. We have more assets, reserves and cash on hand, more Police, Fireman and new equipment to include more repaired or replace streets, sidewalks and trimmed trees than ever in the 102 year History of the City of Upland!! ALL THIS WITHOUT ANY NEW TAXES! I believe that My Leadership record speaks for itself! I ask for your Vote to continue as Mayor of Upland. Thank you, John "JP" Pomierski
My candidacy reflects making positive changes in our local schools.
My four brothers and one sister all attended and graduated from the Chino Valley Unified School District. With today's tough economy, I understand hat now more than ever education is the key to our children's future success.
I have volunteered over 10 years as a wrestling coach. My younger brother Jose, whom I coached, won the State Championship from Don Lugo High in 1994. As a board member, I would continue to produce champions not just in athletics, but in the academic arena for all children.
Volunteer Service includes:
Helped raise money for scholarships for Citizens for Kids Education Foundation a non-profit organization that raises funds for programs and projects that directly benefit the children of the CVUSD, member of the California Association for Bilingual Education (CABE), Parent Teacher Association (PTA) member for Rolling Ridge Elementary, and a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church of Chino Hills.
Attended K-12 schools: Richard Gird Elementary, Ramona Middle School, and graduated from Don Lugo High School in 1993 in the top 10% of my class. I went on to pursue my academic studies at Mt. San Antonio College and LA Trade Technical College.
Professional Experience includes:
Plant Engineer for the United Parcel Service, one of largest package delivery company's on the planet, delivering over 4 billion packages a year across our earth's globe.
It's time to elect members who will be accountable, practice ethics, integrity and put the interests of Kids First !
My 7 Point Plan to turn our schools around:
1.Provide a safe learning environment.
2.Advocate for students, parents and teacher needs.
3.Raise the academic standards for all students.
4.Maintain fiscal responsibility.
5.Develop more after-school programs, keeping our kids safe and motivated in learning.
6.Reduce district legal fees, which have cost the tax payers millions of dollars.
7.I will also support the opening of the New School in The Preserve.
I would be honored to be one of your three choices for school board. Our kids and teachers deserve the best.
The time to Invest in Silver is now!
Thank you. Silver Aguilar, Silver4kids@yahoo.com
SERVICE to me is still the highest form of honor. Therefore, I seek your support in helping me to continue to serve this community. With almost 30 years of service as a public safety leader, my understanding of our precious natural public resources, and my dedication to this community has afforded me the opportunity to serve you as a board member for Cucamonga Valley Water District. Working to acquire the necessary water supply for now and the anticipated growth if tomorrow. Maximizing our efforts by fully taking advantage of opportunities to recycle, conserve, and transfer ground water while purchasing additional water rights. We can say this is service that you can depend on!
I am a VISIONARY who will not stop looking beyond the horizon for hope and future opportunities. We cannot wait for solutions to come to us, but we must continually develop strategic plans that will enable us to not only meet the needs for today, but the needs of our children and grandchildren for tomorrow. Smart planning, projecting and an effective capital management program are ways that we will continue to meet the need of our customers.
I am AVAILABLE to take the time to study and make informed decisions on some of the matters that affect us all -- WATER. I give you my WORD, based on my dedication and service to our community that I will work hard, on your behalf and make sound decisions for the good of this community. For this reason, I need your support. Our policy-making body has provided sound leadership that makes this district second to none. I am asking you to continue to show your faith in this District by voting: FLOYD E. CLARK SR., DIRECTOR, Cucamonga Valley Water District
With concern about economic stability we cannot afford to be frivolous. As ratepayers, we don't have much control over how money is spent by utility companies. That is not the case with your water bill. Direct local control of expenditures can be closely monitored by the elected officials on the Water Board. Is a $750,000.00 remodel of the existing lobby of the Water Company building in the interest of the ratepayers? Could the existing lobby be made safe and attractive for less? I suggest to you that it can. My membership on the Board will bring the business perspective needed to meet the challenges of operating your water district with fiscal restraint.
My career as a successful business owner has given me the necessary expertise and sound judgment to address the short and long term needs of our Water District and its non-profit (501c3) Frontier Project. I have been an active community volunteer, participating in and leading organizations in Rancho Cucamonga for 32 years, including over 20 years as the owner-operator of a successful local business, Past-President of the National Association of Woman Business Owners-IE, member of Executive Boards and non-profits such as OPARC, The Visiting Nurses Association of Southern California, the County Youth Accountability Board and current Planning Department "Visioneers." I understand budgets, receivables, payables, human resources, capital expenditures, government regulations and fiscal and fiduciary responsibility because I have lived them. I have met payroll, struggled over benefit costs, studied bids and written proposals. These are skills that are needed more than ever today.
Since the formation of your Water Board in 1955 the skills of the Boards of Directors have typically been balanced, representing a variety of business as well as community interests. My background includes a career in the day to day operation of my own business, making daily decisions that have nurtured a vision that spans decades. I am a candidate whose career shows the long term effects of controlling the bottom line. My skills will add a necessary balance of experience to your Board.
I respectfully ask for your vote. Thank you.

As a 51 year resident of Upland, I am proud of our city. However, I share the concerns expressed by many citizens about the mismanagement of our tax dollars, the secret meeting with developers and the arbitrary removal of neighborhood leaders from city committees and commissions.
As a Councilman and local businessman, I'm dedicated to serving our community:
--Founder, Cardiac Care Club, San Antonio Hospital --Founding Member, Coy Estes Senior Apartments --Past President, Upland Chamber of Commerce
Building a better future for Upland means putting the concerns of our people first. My priorities as Mayor are:
Open Government - Improve communication with the local residents.
Insist on public "light of day" scrutiny of city contracts and agreements.
Fiscal Responsibility - Limit fees to protect residents from excessive charges for water, trash and sewer services.
Quality of Life - Strengthen community standards to preserve home values and open space. Expand recreational facilities and provide affordable housing for seniors.
Public Safety - Increase police patrols and clean up deteriorated areas.
Make public safety our top budget priority!
I would be honored to earn your vote November 4th and serve as your Mayor. www.raymusser.org
The economy is clearly first and foremost on everyone's mind. In this difficult climate, small businesses are struggling to secure credit to meet payroll. Consumers are struggling to get loans to buy a car or home, or even pay for college. People's retirements are on the line. I believe we need to take careful steps to prevent this downturn from worsening, while protecting all taxpayers.
In order to promote economic growth and create jobs, I have consistently voted to keep taxes low, keep spending in check, and provide benefits to those who are struggling to find work. I have also supported housing legislation designed to assist families facing the loss of their home. Also key to our economic recovery is establishing an American-made energy supply with American resources and American jobs, something I have voted to achieve.
National security has been another constant topic of discussion. I have always voted to fully fund our troops and border patrol agents.
I have also strongly supported our veterans by voting to expand benefits like improved health care and enhancing the G.I. Bill of Rights.
On the local front, I believe working in a bipartisan way is key to results. As a result of a true federal-state-local partnership, my Democratic colleagues and I have brought home over $70 million to get perchlorate contamination out of our drinking water in the San Gabriel Valley. We are also increasing our local water supplies in the western Inland Empire with 100,000 new acre feet of clean recycled water annually.
Another challenge is reducing traffic congestion. My Democratic colleagues and I, working closely with local leaders, have helped secure nearly $30 million to bring the Gold Line Foothill Extension through the Valley to Montclair and build a strong relationship with the Federal Transit Administration to recognize its value.
Challenges remain, specifically getting the support of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, but this is a fight worth waging together.
We're in tough times and we need a bipartisan approach to solving the challenges facing our country and communities. I will continue fighting for you and I look forward to serving you in the next Congress.
As a two-term elected official, it has been my pleasure and honor to serve as a Director at the Inland Empire Utilities Agency since 2002. I've worked on projects bringing recycled water to our communities, finding renewable sources of energy, like solar and wind power, and supported and worked toward legislation that would insure continued safe and reliable water supplies to our region. I've had the pleasure to work and build strong partnerships with other elected officials throughout the Inland Empire, our state and country. I've learned how to utilize all of the available resources on every level to maximize results in forward growth and progress. Through my role at the Inland Empire Utilities Agency, I have gained the insight and knowledge necessary to play a greater role in my city, Fontana.
Please visit www.angel4fontana.com. There you will find my mission statement, my vision and learn more about me and my family and our commitment to our great city. My pledge and my promise remain clear, to be the VOICE OF REASON on all issues facing our City as we move into the future. As a 20 year resident of the City, I have seen the great transformation of our City; however, I do not believe that our growth has been equally dispersed nor have all sectors of our community been equally represented. I know I am the candidate best suited to bridge this gap and bring our community together so that we can prosper in the future, not just economically but socially.
If you believe in change and its importance at this critical juncture in American history, then please, show your support for me when you cast your ballot.
Together, let's make Election Year 2008 a turning point by recognizing our need for change.
If elected, I will form an Ethics Committee, to oversee City spending in areas of no return for our investment, along with "cloudy" spending.
A city must be run like a business, and good business requires good investments.
With money made available, I intend to foster a much needed growth in our police and code enforcement departments. I will also encourage respect for all of our city employees, but especially towards our hardworking P.D.
Pomona, as a city, is in a unique position, geographically speaking.
We are centrally located among the 60, 71, 57 and 10 freeways. We have a beautiful Metrolonk train stop, within walking distance to downtown. A perfect position for bringing in new business and shoppers. Our potential is enormous, and possible. Naturally, we must first create a safe and attractive environment for our future business's. We must become more business friendly, by offering tax breaks or credits, making permits easier to attain, thinking outside the box, and attracting developers who can deliver on time.
I would push for the beautification of Gary Ave., just north of the 10 freeway. Gary ave., as the gateway to our downtown, is in serious need of a clean up and revitalization. Attractive gateways, attract visitors.
Finally, as a retired Aerospace Electronics Designer, who has spent my entire career as a team player. I am a big believer in team work, and would encourage such among all Council Members. I would also encourage city wide communication thru town hall meetings. I would also encourge respect for all, and would work hard towards healing our presently divided city. We can raise our standards with simple changes. We must all work together to foster a better Pomona for everyone. As your Commom Sense candidate, I fully believe in our potential, and will work towards our possibilities.
My service on the Citizen's Blue Ribbon Budget Review Committee and Council Advisory Committee helped me understand the critical financial concerns confronting our city even before I was first elected to City Council. The Upland Fire Fighters and Police Officers Associations have endorsed my re-election because I insist upon strong fiscal reliability for our city.
I worked to create a Paramedic Program in the Upland Fire Dept. Today we have four fully trained and equipped paramedics on call 24-7 to protect you and your family. Over 70% of our 911 calls are for heart attacks, strokes and accidents. This vital program has saved numerous lives.
In South Upland, we have spent nearly $30 million on flood control and ground water management facilities. We have re-paved numerous streets, and embarked upon an ambitious revitalization plan for Upland's Town Center.
Upland's greatest asset is its people. I strongly support and encourage adults to be involved with their kids in youth sports. This is why I support a Regional Sports Park between Baseline and the 210 Freeway.
Citizen involvement in our service clubs, charitable organizations and faith-based groups is essential to a healthy community. I encourage citizens to support everything from AYSO to the YMCA and all that is in between! I have worked with citizens in numerous groups and I encourage everyone to participate.
The "Jewel" in Upland's crown is San Antonio Hospital. As a city, we must maintain a strong working relationship with "our" hospital. It is important to both our health and to Upland's economy.
My key objectives in a new term will be to continue good fiscal management, revitalize the Town Center, support community organizations, and continue to strengthen our important public safety services.
Upland has been my home for over 30 years and today three generations of my family live here. This is the town I plan to live in for the rest of my life, so I have a personal stake in making it the best city it can be.
I bring the experience gained over the course of a 31-year career in law enforcement to my duties in the State Capitol. This includes service as a Volunteer Fire Captain, Police Cadet in Corona and 29 years with the California Highway Patrol, retiring as Commander of the Indio Station. I am a graduate of the FBI National Academy, one of the foremost law enforcement training venues in the world. I am running to be the first State Senator with a full-time law enforcement background since Riverside County's own Robert Presley in 1994, bringing a voice that will benefit the public safety of all Californians.
In my six years in the State Assembly, I have had 35 bills that have been signed into law by the Governor, an impressive feat for a Republican legislator. I created a new felony for street racers who cause great bodily harm to other drivers in their reckless races. One of my proudest accomplishments was writing "Aryanna's Law" and subsequent legislation requiring daycare facilities to clearly notify parents about past health and safety violations, after 20-month-old Aryanna Sanchez drowned at a Riverside facility previously cited for an uncovered pool. I have always placed the safety of our community's families first and worked hard to pass "Jessica's Law" to crack down on sex offenders.
I firmly believe our state has a spending problem, not a revenue problem; therefore, I oppose efforts to raise taxes to support wasteful government spending. I believe government has a duty to the taxpayers to live within its means and manage their money as efficiently as possible.
My reputation for working across the aisle to get things accomplished on behalf of the State has been rewarded by Legislator of the Year honors given by the California School Boards Association, the California Rifle and Pistol Association, and the California Narcotics Officers' Association. Supervisor John Tavaglione, a supermajority of local officials throughout the Senate District, education leaders, and community leaders have endorsed my candidacy.
It's been a tremendous opportunity to serve the residents of Riverside County, and I look forward to offering my experience to you as your next State Senator.
If you're interested in learning about my campaign, please see my website at www.JohnBenoit.com.
My top three areas of focus will be:
1. To meet the educational needs of individual students. That's giving the teachers the tools they need to make sure a student is making continuous improvement.
2. Fiscal responsibility. Making sure the district gets value for dollars spent and that there are no over budget expenses or change orders without prior written staff approval.
3. Building strong relationships with our education partners. All district employees are partners and we need to make sure they feel valued, so the children will garner the benefits of having happy personnel. Children come in contact with all of us!
My education, business experience, long history of community service and commitment to work hard for all students will provide essential qualities for this service. Earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the University of La Verne, working as a corporate executive, becoming an entrepreneur, and living in our community for the last 17+ years have all prepared me to serve as your next Governing Board Member. I have been active at the Elementary, Junior High and High School levels as a parent volunteer, where my daughters have attended. I currently serve as the Treasurer of the Ramona Junior High Parent Teacher Organization, President of the Don Lugo High School Conquistador Foundation and a member of both the Don Lugo All Sports Booster Club and DAL Pride Committee. I coach girls' basketball for the City of Chino youth basketball programs in winter and summer and have also coached at Ramona and Don Lugo.
I have a heart for my community and a desire to be a positive force while being ethically responsible for the betterment of our district. Working with others to support our CHILDREN to REACH their HIGHEST HEIGHTS is what I enjoy most. A vote for Brandon K. Blanchard is a voice for you! To learn more, visit www.blanchard4cvusd.com
My name is Pete Peterson, and I'm a candidate for the Alta Loma School Board. I'm asking for your continued support by re-electing me on November 4th. Students in Alta Loma continue to be among the highest achievers in San Bernardino County as shown by their latest API scores, with a District average of 829. Some schools are close to reaching 900 and I will continue to work towards that goal for all schools.
I am the facilities planner for the Ontario-Montclair School District's Facilities Planning and Operations Department, and have served as Assistant Director since 1998. As a school architect, I have been responsible for the design of new schools and modernization projects. I have owned my own business and know the importance of developing a realistic budget plus hiring and keeping highly qualified staff members. I understand the necessity for providing all employees with competitive salaries and benefits to ensure the continued success of ALSD.
My public service also includes coaching Pony League baseball, serving on the Board of Directors of the Mariposa Women's Center in Orange, CA, being an active PTA parent, and as Chairperson of Alta Loma Junior High School's Site Council. I am a Vietnam Veteran and served six years in the US Navy. I also serve on the West End Special Education Local Planning Area's (WESELPA's) Facility Advisory Council. I served for six years on the State Architect's Advisory Board as the Public School Representative.
The School Board functions as a non-partisan panel that sets the goals and objectives for the District by collaborating with the teachers, parents and administrators. I am proud to have received the endorsements of individuals and groups across the political spectrum as they recognize that my leadership style and decision-making process keeps students first. These endorsements include ALEA (Alta Loma Educators Association), ALSD classified staff members, the San Bernardino County Republican Party, and the Presidents of the teachers' association (OMTA) and the classified members' association (CSEA) for the Ontario-Montclair School District, and three past superintendents of ALSD.
Alta Loma's continued academic success and financial stability requires leaders that make sound decisions based on data and collaboration, and can adapt to changes as they become necessary. The State's budget and declining enrollment will offer some very real challenges over the next few years. Please recommit your support to our students by re-electing me on November 4th. Thank you.
Gabe Chavez is a proven community leader. Gabe is a lifelong business owner. Presently, owner of Tri Tax Bookkeeping & Financial Services. With over twenty years of community service, volunteering on various boards and commissions. Currently he serves as President of the Esperanza Scholarship Foundation, assisting and motivating students to realize their dreams of a college education.
Since 1999 to present, Gabe Chavez has served with distinction as a Planning Commissioner for the City of Ontario, working to shape the economic development of our community. During his tenure, he has gained the respect of his colleagues and city staff.
Gabe's commitment to the community has earned him the endorsement of Law Enforcement and School District Employees. Additionally, the support of County Supervisor Gary Ovitt, Montclair Mayor Paul Eaton, Ontario Mayor and members of the Montclair and Ontario City Council, members of the Ontario-Montclair School Board, Chaffey Joint Union High School Board, and Chaffey College Governing Board of Trustees.
Gabe Chavez believes Ontario-Montclair Schools are blessed to have exceptional teachers and school employees, who have worked hard to accomplish much; however, we still have much to do. Gabe's goal is to create an educational environment in OMSD that is competitive with other districts by working to:
Improve student achievement and test scores in our schools.
Increase positive behaviors among students.
Expand after-school activities and special needs education.
Today's students are tomorrow's leaders. Gabe will work to enhance our Math-Science curriculum and English Language Arts, preparing and motivating students to succeed in Advanced Placement courses and tests. And require that professional development be tied to district goals and desired student learning outcomes.
A fiscal conservative, Gabe knows financial health is vital to the sustainability of successful academic achievement, strong community partnerships, and enhanced learning environments.
Please join the Ontario Police Officers Association, the California School Employees Association 108, and a host of local elected officials in support of Gabe Chavez. With your vote, Gabe will focus on what is best for our children, and remain accessible to the community. You may contact Gabe Chavez at (909)910-0557, email, gabe@VoteChavez.com
To enrich career technical/vocational education and college preparation opportunities, a Health Academy, Nursing training and BioMedical program were created. Culinary Arts, JROTC and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) programs were added.
The development of a K-12 International Baccalaureate Programme, weighted grades for Advanced Placement classes, and new Mandarin language classes have all worked to enrich students' educational opportunities.
The results are impressive. API scores continually increase. The achievement gap narrows. Attendance has improved. More of our schools are recognized statewide and nationally. Our communications via CVUSD's website, our cable Channel 17 programming and automated calling to deliver important school messages is richer. Our grant writing has expanded, recently winning a $1 million grant for Special Education.
Positive accountability has improved, raising employee compensation by more than 13% over 3 years and tying increases to the Superintendent's compensation to district-wide performance such as improved graduation rates. We reestablished a Relationship Council to openly communicate common issues between employee stakeholders. We strengthened our partnership with parents by respecting their rights to be informed and give consent when controversial supplemental instruction materials are used in the classroom. We reorganized the management of legal services, lowering costs and improving outcomes. We are better prepared for emergencies; allocating specific funds to critical training and supplies.
Going forward, we face challenges. The state's budget is uncertain. District enrollment is declining as economic demographics shift and the requirements for success in an increasingly complex and demanding world economy continue to compound. CVUSD is absolutely up for the challenge. Thank you for allowing me to be your Trustee within the CVUSD family for the last 4 years. It would be an honor to be chosen to serve for a second term. Together, we are absolutely 4 years better! Congratulations Chino Valley Unified. www.michaelcalta.com.
During those years, the other Board members and I worked together to meet the challenges of the future. We hired and promoted those persons who were tops in their fields and who would bring credibility to their respective departments. And, above all, we fostered a sense of adventure, and allowed those with ability and an innovative spirit to seek the best instructional tools and utilize them. We always put children first, and asked the driving question in all that we did, which is, of course, does this truly benefit the children of the Ontario-Montclair School District?
As a proven leader with over 16 years of previous Board experience, I am well versed in the requirements of the public school system. As your school board member, I will promote policies that encourage student achievement. This means having safe and comfortable classrooms. This means seeking adequate funding to be able to bring the best and latest technology available for students to use. This means making sure that our teachers are supported in all that they do to insure student learning. This means having students who know that there is zero tolerance for unacceptable behavior, and it means supporting programs which will help kids succeed. This also means making sure that the parents are truly partners in their child's education and shown how to provide a supportive environment to help them succeed.
The task ahead is clear. I believe that as long as the members of the Board work together, they will bring a quality education to the children in OMSD. I will work with the Board and staff to support all of our children and give them the best we can offer. We must allow our children to stretch and reach for their dreams, and, when necessary, we must even help them learn to dream. I would appreciate your vote in November.
Therefore, I John Mendoza ask for your vote this November 4th for the office of councilmember for district 6 to get a clean start in the district to get the job done that was never started which is improving the district and the city of Pomona.
As a resident of District 6 of N Pomona for over twenty years and a father of two young adults John and Veronica I understand the importance of public safety for our children. Public safety is the number one top priority.
As a resident in the community I have always advocated to our city officials the need to invest in programs for our youth, infrastructure improvements such as alley paving, street and sidewalk repairs, speed humps on dangerous streets and so on.
And finally as a resident in the district I have always voiced concern over the issue of improving communication between residents and city hall in the decision making process.
Your vote will guarantee maximum input to City Hall.
Your vote will guarantee more Neighborhood Watch Groups.
Your vote will guarantee improved street repairs, alley paving, tree trimming, and sidewalk repairs.
Your vote will help and contain gang violence in the city.
Vote John Mendoza for District 6 Pomona city council Johnmendoza08 @yahoo.com
We have been fortunate recently to add much to our community: Fontana Park with its wellness center and aquatics facility; the Lewis Library & Technology Center; the Center Stage theater downtown; a new Neighborhood Center; lighted sports fields; and much more.
Yet, there is much more to do, and we need experienced, honest, financially responsible leaders to do it. That is why I am asking for your support for re-election.
We still need better parks. We need safer neighborhoods and schools. We need more programs for seniors, families and youth. We need road improvements to ease traffic congestion. And we need to do all of this in challenging economic times while ensuring sound fiscal management.
We've improved police response times, added 65 new police officers, built new fire stations, created city-wide paramedic services and returned $4 million a year to the community with our new city fire district.
But keeping Fontana families safe means working to solve the problems of the future. We need to expand efforts to fight gangs by building stronger partnerships between law enforcement, schools, parks & recreation, and youth organizations to help provide alternatives to gangs and drugs. We need to involve more residents in our community meetings and neighborhood block clubs.
To meet the challenges facing Fontana families, I pledge to maintain sound fiscal management of the city. That means balancing the budget without adding taxes on our families, eliminating the utility users tax on businesses on scheduled, and fighting the Legislature's efforts to steal local taxes.
We need to make it easier for families to get to and from school, work or shopping -- that's why must build more key transportation projects, including freeway interchanges/overpasses, and push for better traffic management along busy streets and avenues.
I ask for your vote so that I can continue the progress Fontana has made in recent years. For more information or to share your thoughts with me, please go to www.janicerutherford.org. Thank you for your consideration.
For years on my show I have talked about how more of the common citizen, the working class, need to get involved in the political process. We have far too many "career politicians" who are either out of touch with the average person or just don't care about their constituency. This is not what our founding fathers envisioned, rather good, honest, citizens who would enter the political world for a time and then return to their regular life.
We need more honest, ethical and principled people to be willing to step forward and remove the career politicians who often display little of those attributes. We need to remove those who serve only their own or other's special interests while the wants and needs of the American Public lie largely unheeded.
I have decided it is time for me to prove that a good, decent, hard-working person can and should be in the political arena.
As City Clerk, along with my regular duties, I will be your eyes and ears on how our city is being run by our council, mayor and city staff. I will report to you on my show, via my website at www.voiceoftheinlandempire.com and for those that sign up for my newsletter, you will be sent up to date info directly to your inbox.
I have been committed to our community since I moved to Rancho Cucamonga almost 15 years ago. I have always believed in serving my community. I am Chairman of the Equal Opportunity Commission for the County of San Bernardino. I am a board member of the Inland Empire Economic Partnership (IEEP), I sit on the board of directors for the Inland Empire Chapter of the American Red Cross and I am a member of Kiwanis International.
I am also a past president of the Rancho Cucamonga Chamber of Commerce and I have sat on the Chaffey College Foundation, the YMCA and the City's Library Foundation boards.
I am endorsed by Councilmember Rex Gutierrez, the San Bernardino County Republican Party Central Committee, and other community leaders for City Clerk. On November 4th, thank you for voting Ron Stark for Rancho Cucamonga City Clerk!
My name is Wendy Maier. I own and operate a successful deli in downtown Pomona and I reside in Ontario. I am interested in making changes in order for our government to be more responsive to our communities needs.
My main goals are finding real solutions to issues that concern all the people in the state of California, especially those in the 61st Assembly district, which covers the cities of Chino, Montclair, Pomona, and Ontario.
We must control our spending. Sacramento has a huge spending problem. We have to balance a sensible budget without raising taxes.
As a small business owner, I see why many of us find it hard to stay in business. We are taxed to the extreme. We need to become business friendly and entice businesses back into California instead of driving them out to other states.
The education of our children is very important to me. As a former educator, my eyes were opened to the challenges our young people face due to our failing education system. Our youth are the most important asset we have in the country. They are our future.
The safety of the people in our cities is imperative. We must always maintain a zero tolerance for gangs and violence. My Dad is a retired police officer, and my brother is in law enforcement. I was a volunteer firefighter in New York for several years.
I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Elementary Education. I taught 2nd and 6th graders. For 6 years, I taught incarcerated youths. I was a youth counselor on a cruise ship for 7 years. I coached Basketball, Softball, and Volleyball for several years. I was on the board of the Ontario Fast Pitch. I am a member of the Pomona Chamber of Commerce, and I am a member of the Board of Directors of the Pomona Boys and Girls club.
Every Friday, during the hours of 6pm to 8pm, I will be at New York Delight, 310 So. Thomas Street, Pomona, Ca 91766. Please feel free to stop by. I can be reached at (909) 643-6428 or wendymaier@yahoo.com.
Throughout my career in public service I have fought to protect the public safety to make Pomona a better place to live. In 1994, I led the effort to require the hiring of bilingual 9-1-1 operators at the LAPD. I also passed the state's first ordinance regulating where convicted sex offenders were allowed to live. The ordinance prevented sex offenders from living near Pomona's schools and businesses or together in large group homes.
Ending the cycle of gang violence has also been a top priority. As mayor, I imposed gang injunctions limiting gang member activities. I have also been working with the community to increase police cooperation in crime-ridden neighborhoods.
Finally, I helped to restore firefighting positions in Pomona to ensure that fire shifts are fully staffed and firefighters are properly equipped to respond to fire and emergency calls.
California is facing a lot of challenges right now: budget cuts to our most needed social services, exorbitant gas prices, a crisis in public education, an economy short on good-paying jobs, and a health care system that's failing too many families.
I see the effects of those challenges on a daily basis. I have spent years working to remedy many of these issues at the local level. My experiences taught me that if you identify a problem, build a coalition, and work to solve it, there's no limit to what you can accomplish.
I'm ready to take that lesson to Sacramento. The 61st district should be represented by a problem-solver with close ties to the community and a real understanding of the challenges California's working families face every day. My experiences in public safety, local government and as a working mother of three make me uniquely qualified to understand, serve and represent our district in the state assembly.
I hope you will join me in my effort to work toward real solutions for working families. There is too much at stake to risk fighting the same old battles while nothing is solved. For more information visit www.normatorres.com Together, we can move California in a new direction, and I ask for your vote on November 4th.
My name is Don Galleano and I am running for re-election to the Western Municipal Water District Board of Directors, Division 4.
As a third generation grape grower and winemaker in Western Riverside County, I have a unique stake in protecting and enhancing our regional water resources. My interest in water management and community service dates back 30 years, beginning with my 23 years as a Director of the Jurupa Community Services District and most recently as your current Western Municipal Water District Director.
Water, or the lack of it, affects us all. Providing clean, reliable water while being proactive and creative in water re-use and conservation will ensure a strong economy and healthy environment for generations to come. Leaders are needed who understand the complexities of water stewardship and, most importantly, who will foster strong community alliances through trust and respect. I have earned support from leaders in Congress, the State Legislature, and local governments. Together we are successfully collaborating to manage the drought we are experiencing now.
In my first term on Western's Board, we have taken measures to expand our local water supply to make up for diminishing imports from the Colorado River and State Water Project. Among the $300 million in projects currently underway are: the Seven Oaks Dam, which captures up to 200,000 acre-feet of storm water that would otherwise run into the ocean; the Riverside-Corona Feeder, which will transfer wet year runoff to our area for use in dry years; and the Arlington and Chino Desalters which clean up ground water and provide millions of gallons of pure water.
Western has been at the forefront of water conservation efforts, with our award-winning garden providing a role model for water-efficient landscaping, and awarding millions of dollars of rebates to households for conservation efforts. In addition, Western has looked to the future, investing in our local students to keep them engaged in science, nurturing the next generation of leaders to prepare for Southern California's water needs.
As a result of Western's responsible leadership, our community has been blessed by having some of the best water in the State.
Thank you for your past support. With your vote, I will continue to build a bright future for our community as your Division 4 Director at Western Municipal Water District.
I care about our Community. I have been a part of Rancho Cucamonga since 1985 and in the Inland Empire for over 36 years. My wife Susan and I value family, home and community. We have raised our family here and have been very involved in the Alta Loma School District since 1988.
I have a vision for Alta Loma. Having served as the City Planner for the City of Rancho Cucamonga for 20 years, I understand the working process of government and have worked diligently with the private business sector to build our City. My work culminated in the development of Victoria Gardens, a model for other cities in the United States. In addition, I have assisted a wide range of community members to be involved as volunteers with activities that promote community. My knowledge and understanding of budgets and the big picture of public finance will be an asset as we look to future fiscal years for the Alta Loma School District. I am ready to help set the direction for the future of our District.
I support teachers and I am dedicated to students. As an Alta Loma School Board Trustee I believe that every student deserves to have the best education in California. To accomplish this, I believe we must do all that we can to support our hard working teachers. For other core values please visit bradbuller.com.
I believe in working as a team. It takes a team of teachers, district staff, parents, school board, and community friends to help a student grow into an active, contributing member of their local community. The best way to build a team is to listen well, reach out and openly share ideas, identify needs, and prioritize goals.
I work hard with others who work hard. I have always sought ways to bridge community issues with the local schools in Rancho Cucamonga. From orchestrating employee volunteers to becoming reading buddies, to gaining a state-awarded planning curriculum for teaching students the principles of community urban planning, to coaching youth sports, I have dedicated my efforts to student success. I served on the Terra Vista Children's Forum and was also a parent member of the Rancho Cucamonga High School Accreditation Team.
I value the opportunity to serve my community and would appreciate your vote on November 4th for the Alta Loma School District Governing Board.
Vote BRAD BULLER.

I am against the proposal or any incentive for higher taxes. I am also committed to providing new residents as well as our established residents with a good quality of life which requires less crowding by reducing densities within our city limits. I believe in taking action to improve our quality of life and I will proudly represent our city.

My community involvement has included: Elder and Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church, Upland; Upland Highland Regiment Booster Board; Girl Scout leader; AYSO referee.
Public Education in California is facing a financial crisis. As a Board Member, I will continue to maintain fiscal responsibility as I work to ensure that the crisis has no effect on the quality of education in Upland.
As a Board Member I supported many facility improvements including, 21st Century Classrooms and enhancement of technology. I am proud of the new multi-purpose rooms and classrooms on our elementary school campuses and of the library expansion, the new aquatic center, additional parking and beautification of the quad and front entrance at Upland High School.
I ask for your continued support.
