Ken Willis, Upland City Council incumbent

When first elected to the Upland City Council, our city had a $2 million deficit. Today, we have a balanced budget with assets exceeding our liabilities by more than $300 million and we have $66 million cash on hand. We have expanded our revenue base by creating new commercial development and revitalizing old supermarkets along Foothill Blvd.
My service on the Citizen’s Blue Ribbon Budget Review Committee and Council Advisory Committee helped me understand the critical financial concerns confronting our city even before I was first elected to City Council. The Upland Fire Fighters and Police Officers Associations have endorsed my re-election because I insist upon strong fiscal reliability for our city.
I worked to create a Paramedic Program in the Upland Fire Dept. Today we have four fully trained and equipped paramedics on call 24-7 to protect you and your family. Over 70% of our 911 calls are for heart attacks, strokes and accidents. This vital program has saved numerous lives.
In South Upland, we have spent nearly $30 million on flood control and ground water management facilities. We have re-paved numerous streets, and embarked upon an ambitious revitalization plan for Upland’s Town Center.
Upland’s greatest asset is its people. I strongly support and encourage adults to be involved with their kids in youth sports. This is why I support a Regional Sports Park between Baseline and the 210 Freeway.
Citizen involvement in our service clubs, charitable organizations and faith-based groups is essential to a healthy community. I encourage citizens to support everything from AYSO to the YMCA and all that is in between! I have worked with citizens in numerous groups and I encourage everyone to participate.
The “Jewel” in Upland’s crown is San Antonio Hospital. As a city, we must maintain a strong working relationship with “our” hospital. It is important to both our health and to Upland’s economy.
My key objectives in a new term will be to continue good fiscal management, revitalize the Town Center, support community organizations, and continue to strengthen our important public safety services.
Upland has been my home for over 30 years and today three generations of my family live here. This is the town I plan to live in for the rest of my life, so I have a personal stake in making it the best city it can be.
