Carol Schlaepfer, Pomona City Council District 6 candidate

As a 14 year resident in the Yorba District of Pomona, I have been involved in many Grass Roots endeavers for our city. Presently as Neighborhood Watch block captain. As such, I have become only too aware of our need to gain control over the high crime rate in our city. A city plagued with numerous gang activity and homicides. Neighborhood Watch groups afford us the perfect opportunity to make a difference. I will encourage a "city wide" program.
If elected, I will form an Ethics Committee, to oversee City spending in areas of no return for our investment, along with "cloudy" spending.
A city must be run like a business, and good business requires good investments.
With money made available, I intend to foster a much needed growth in our police and code enforcement departments. I will also encourage respect for all of our city employees, but especially towards our hardworking P.D.
Pomona, as a city, is in a unique position, geographically speaking.
We are centrally located among the 60, 71, 57 and 10 freeways. We have a beautiful Metrolonk train stop, within walking distance to downtown. A perfect position for bringing in new business and shoppers. Our potential is enormous, and possible. Naturally, we must first create a safe and attractive environment for our future business's. We must become more business friendly, by offering tax breaks or credits, making permits easier to attain, thinking outside the box, and attracting developers who can deliver on time.
I would push for the beautification of Gary Ave., just north of the 10 freeway. Gary ave., as the gateway to our downtown, is in serious need of a clean up and revitalization. Attractive gateways, attract visitors.
Finally, as a retired Aerospace Electronics Designer, who has spent my entire career as a team player. I am a big believer in team work, and would encourage such among all Council Members. I would also encourage city wide communication thru town hall meetings. I would also encourge respect for all, and would work hard towards healing our presently divided city. We can raise our standards with simple changes. We must all work together to foster a better Pomona for everyone. As your Commom Sense candidate, I fully believe in our potential, and will work towards our possibilities.
