LA County transportation measure trails in early returns

With 10 percent of precincts reporting, Los Angeles County Measure R, which would add half a cent to the county sales tax to fund transportation projects, was shy of the 2/3 support needed for it to pass.

Sixty-four percent of voters support the measure, with 36 percent opposed. Complete Results

Some political leaders in the eastern part of the county -- including Claremont Mayor Ellen Taylor -- publicly opposed the measure because they said it was too LA-city centric.
