Hello, my name is Lina Montes and I am a candidate for West Valley Water District this Nov 3. My family and I have been residents of the Inland Empire for 20 years and have lived in Rialto for the last eight years. My husband and I work hard to achieve the American Dream and are installing these same values to our 8-year-old boys. Having been involved in local politics for the last 10 years, I have long worked for a positive change in our community; I want to bring fresh ideas and positive solutions to the West Valley Water district.
I have many concerns about where the residents’ money is being spent, the contamination of the ground water in Rialto, Fontana and Colton and the water rate increase of 40 percent over the next three years. Many residents are aware of the contamination and have to go to extreme lengths to have quality water.
West Valley Water District board members need to be effective communicators and inform its residents of the severe drought we are having. There should be more information available to the residents about water conservation and how they can supplement their landscaping with plants that require less water. The Web site should always be up to date with the current budget and minutes of the meetings, which they have not posted since March of 2009.
Therefore, I hope you will support me in my fight to provide quality water for all residents, to communicate more effectively and to have no more water rate increases.
