Just say no!

It was announced today that Nick Diaz was suspended for six months at today's Nevada State Athletic Commission hearings for testing positive for marijuana. The result of his match with Takanori Gomi has also been changed to a no contest.
First off, one of the top contenders for 2007 Fight of the Year (really, it would've been difficult for any fight to top that 1 1/2 rounds of action) has forever been tarnished.
All for what?
I just don't get it. I could almost (keyword: almost) understand a fighter doing steroids. It's a performance enhancer. Marijauna is a depressant. Smoking it offers a fighter no advantage. The only result of smoking pot can be a negative one: a suspension.
It doesn't make much difference to me that Diaz now has to sit out six months. He was going to be sidelined with a broken eye socket from the Gomi fight, anyway. But, one of the early highlights of 2007 has been dimmed, already. That's upsetting.

Why is the Nevada State Athletic Commission testing for marijuana anyway? A sports governing body should be testing for performance enhancing drugs ONLY! The governing body exists to protect the integrity of the sport, not to rule on the morality of what the participants do away from the ring.
