Nicklaus wins again

Jack Nicklaus was as gracious and funny as ever Sunday night at the Omni downtown when he received the Roy Firestone Award by the West Coast Sports Associates. The nonprofit organization helps fund sports opportunities for underprivileged kids and each year recognizes a prominent sports figure who’s done a lot for charity.
Nicklaus won 18 majors, then won a San Francisco-signed 49ers helmet in a live auction. He “won” it for $5,000. Firestone was the auctioneer.
Much of the Nicklaus memorabilia went fast in the auction. There were other items as well, like two LaDanian Tomlinson-autographed helmets that went for $2,250 each.
An original oil painting of Nicklaus went for $9,000.
