Phil Mickelson has signed an endorsement deal with KPMG, an audit, tax and advisory firm. The release is below:

NEW YORK/ PEBBLE BEACH, Feb. 6 – KPMG LLP, the U.S. audit, tax and advisory firm, signed a three-year global sponsorship agreement with Phil Mickelson, two-time Masters champion and the No. 2 ranked golfer in the world, according to a joint announcement today. As part of his agreement with the Big Four firm, Mickelson will wear the KPMG logo on his headwear during all of his golf related appearances, beginning this week at the 2008 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

“We’re both proud and excited about our new relationship with Phil Mickelson. We share the same passion to be the best, and an unwavering commitment to professionalism in our chosen fields,” said Timothy P. Flynn, Chairman and CEO of KPMG LLP. “Golf is a sport that has a worldwide following. Teaming with Phil – one of the world’s top and most admired players – will bring the KPMG name additional positive recognition around the globe.”

“I’m equally proud to join with KPMG,” said Mickelson. “After talking to its leadership, I came away convinced that KPMG is passionately focused on ‘being the best,’ through building a culture based on professionalism and integrity. It’s that culture and the shared passion to be the best that drew me to this relationship. I’ll be bringing everything that I can to our relationship, both on and off the golf course. I want to be sure that KPMG, its partners, its professionals and its clients enjoy the full benefit of our relationship.”

“Phil commands a great deal of respect around the world and shares our dedication to giving back to the community, with a particular focus on education and improving the lives of children,” Flynn said. “And we are in good company when it comes to other companies that are associated with Phil – Rolex, Callaway and ExxonMobil.”

As part of his agreement, Mickelson will be available to appear at an agreed-upon number of KPMG-sponsored marketing events, client meetings and local office events, as well as advertising opportunities.

No. 2 Among Active Players

Mickelson ranks second among active players, with 32 career victories since making his professional debut at the 1992 U.S. Open. He has finished second or third on the money list seven times, including six of the last eight seasons. He has finished in the top 10 at eight of the last nine Masters Tournaments, including wins in 2004 and 2006, and he won the 2005 PGA Championship. A member of the last six Ryder Cup teams, he is the only U.S. player to appear in all seven Presidents Cups.
