Here's a release from the College of the Canyons on four golfers who will play Division I golf next season.
Four Cougar Golfers Take Steps Toward Division I Programs
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. College of the Canyons men¹s golfer Casey
Piper and
women¹s golfers Ashley Redmond, Darlene Bognot and Tessa Harp have all
earned scholarships to Division I universities to play golf at their
respective schools.
Piper, a Simi Valley High School graduate, will be heading to
California
State University, Northridge. The All-State athlete was an integral
part in
helping the Cougars win a state championship in 2008 after he carded
the
lowest round in the field of 60 golfers, a 6-under-par 66.
Redmond (Hart) and Bognot (Monroe) earned scholarships at Morehead
State
University in Morehead, Ky. Morehead will compete in its first
season after
re-establishing the program, which last saw action from 1981-1983.
Harp (Hart) will join the women¹s golf program at Chicago State
University.
The sophomore finished second among the Cougar team at the state
championship and second on the squad as the Cougars won their fifth
conference championship.
During the 2007-08 academic year, head coach Gary Peterson led the
men¹s and
women¹s golf team to state championships. This is the second time in
school
history that this feat has occurred. The first time was also under the
direction of Peterson during the 2001-2002 academic year.
