Berganio in the hunt

David Berganio Jr. of Sylmar is in third place in the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, three shots behind leader Pat Perez. Berganio bogeyed the 18th hole but still shot 64. He shot 63 the previous day and is 17-under par for the tournament. It’s been quite a start for the 40-year-old Berganio, who has battled back problems the last few years but appears to be back on track.

“Well after being away from the game for five and a half years, you know, as much as I enjoyed it then being away from it and not on my own terms, it has really made me appreciate what I have now,” Berganio said.
“And no one gave it to me, I went out and shot 21 under at TOUR school and shot the 64 to get to the finals on the number at second stage. So I’m really enjoying myself.”
