Stricker triumphs at NTO

Steve Stricker, who entered the final round with a six-stroke lead, shot a closing 1-under 71 to hold on for a two-stroke victory over Luke Donald on Sunday in the Northern Trust Open at Riviera Country Club.
Stricker finished at 16-under 268. Donald (66) was at 14 under, one stroke better than J.B. Holmes (67) and Dustin Johnson (66).
The victory moved Stricker to No. 2 in the world rankings, past Phil Mickelson, and atop the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup point standings.
Mickelson, who was bidding for a third consecutive victory at the NTO, shot a final-round 73 and tied for 45th at 2-under 282.
