Dustin Johnson shot a 7-under 64 to take the lead among those who teed off in the morning Thursday during the opening round of the Northern Trust Open at Riviera.
Johnson had seven birdies and no bogeys on his card.
Andres Romero was a shot back at 65 despite taking a double-bogey 6 on the par-4 ninth hole.
Steve Lowery was alone in third after a 67, with 11 players tied for fourth at 3-under 68, including Japanese sensation Ryo Ishikawa, who made his PGA Tour debut at the NTO last year.
