Northern Trust extends sponsorship with PGA Tour event in L.A.

| | Comments (0) |

Northern Trust extended its sponsorship of the PGA Tour event at Riviera Country Club for another four years through 2016, the company just announced on CNBC. Northern Trust had one year left on the original five-year deal.
"We are proud to renew our commitment to the Northern Trust Open," CEO Rick Waddell said in a statement. "This is a terrific event that attracts the world's best professional golfers while supporting our business goals. The Northern Trust Open provides a premiere event for clients, improves brand awareness, and helps the community by generating substantial charitable donations and economic activity."
The Northern Trust Open has a title sponsor for another five years, and given this economy and struggle for many events to attract and maintain title sponsors, this was an important extension for the tour event in Los Angeles.

Sabbatini to be suspended over shennanigans?

| | Comments (0) |

Rory Sabbatini could be suspended from the PGA Tour after an increasing number of antics, the Associated Press reports. He had a profanity-laced tirade against a teenage volunteer at the Northern Trust Open at Riviera in February. Last week, he got in such a heated confrontation with Sean O'Hair that O'Hair's father-in-law got between them. Remember what he did at Tiger Woods' tournament a few years ago? He withdrew from the Chevron World Challenge and high-tailed it to LAX for a Hawaii vacation and didn't even return his rental car, just parked it at the airport, according to reports. And on Wednesday, his wife walked with him in the fairway while pushing a baby stroller (wrong on so many levels). A suspension is a good start.
