JAMES HOLLEY WINS SIMI VALLEY
CITY GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP BY TWO STROKES

James Holley decided to take up golf less than four years ago. During that time, while taking lessons from teaching professional Matt Williamson at Simi Hills Golf Course, he went from novice golfer, to number one golfer at Chatsworth High, to a leader among the golfers at College of the Canyons … and today, to Champion in the Simi Valley City Championship. With rounds of 67 and 65 (132 total, or 10 strokes under par), Holley proved himself to be a true champion.
Placing second in the Championship Flight, with a two-day total of 8 under par 134 was Jonathan Sanders of Chatsworth, a student at the New Community Jewish High School, who has committed to the University of Washington. Third place went to Pasadena’s Dan Sullivan with a 137, while fourth place honors went to Jeremy Sanders (Jonathan’s older brother) with a two-day score of 139.
The Senior Championship flight was won by Gerard Sanders of Los Angeles, with a two-day total of 145 or 3 strokes over par. Sanders bested David Eberstein of Granada Hills, who shot 147 or 5 over par.
In the “A” flight, the gross score champion was Terry Powell of Simi Valley, who shot 6 over par 148 in two rounds. Second place went to Marina del Rey’s Mike Kaspar, who shot 149.
Also in the “A” flight, Arvon Lunsford of Simi Valley finished with a two-round net total of 138, or 4 under par, to win by one stroke over Sean Doud, also from Simi Valley, who shot net 139.
In the “B” flight, Roel Astacaan of Sierra Madre bested the gross score field with a two-round total of 153, winning by two strokes over Robert Finch of Santa Clarita.
The “B” flight net score winner was Simi Valley’s Mike Millard, with a two-round total of 132, who won in a card-off with Adam Ramlall, also of Simi Valley.
In the Senior A flight, Dan Duggan of Simi Valley shot 151, or 9 strokes over par, taking the gross score championship. Sam Levine of Van Nuys shot 152 to take second place.
The Senior A flight net score winner was Bill Amstutz of Chatsworth, whose two-day net score of 129, was 5 strokes better than Steve Conner of Simi Valley, who took second place.
This weekend’s event was the 30th annual for Simi Valley. The 31st annual event is scheduled for July 28 and 29, 2011, again at Simi Hills Golf Course.
