Andrew Perez of Oxnard has a two-shot lead after Saturday’s first round of the Simi Valley City Amateur. Here’s the release from Simi Hills Golf Course:
Andrew Perez Leads in Simi Valley City Championship
Oxnard resident Andrew Perez jumped to the lead after one round of the Simi Valley City Amateur, held on Saturday at Simi Hills Golf Course. With a score of 64, or 7 strokes under par, Perez has a two stroke lead coming into Sunday’s final round. In second place, at 5 under par 66, is Newhall’s Johnny Mac Arthur. Third place is held by Andy Bennett of Ventura, at 3 under par 68.
In the A flight, Terry Powell (Simi Valley) leads the gross score competition with a score of one over par 72, followed by Mike Kaspar (Marina del Rey), with a score of 74. In the net competition, Arvon Lunsford (Simi Valley) shot 5 under par 66 and Rich Freeark (Simi Valley) shot net 68 or 3 under par.
The B flight gross score leader is Roel Astacaan of Sierra Madre with a 4 over par 75, followed by Robert Finch (Simi Valley) with 78. The B flight net score leaders after the first round are Astacaan with net 64 and Adam Ramlall of Simi Valley with net 66.
After the first round, the Senior Championship flight leaders are Gerard Sanders (Los Angeles) at two over par 73 and Victor Benson (Pasadena) with 74.
The Senior A flight gross competition is led by Dan Duggan (Simi Valley) with 75 and Sam Levine (Van Nuys) with 77. Net competition leaders are Bill Amstutz (Chatsworth), carding a net 65 and Duggan and Dave McCormick (Simi Valley) with net 67.
The City Championship concludes on Sunday at Simi Hills. This premier city championship is celebrating its 30th year of competition. Spectators are welcome to follow the competition at the course. Play resumes at 6:00 am, with the championship flight starting at 10:40 am.
