Chatsworth resident James Holley won the San Clemente City Amateur Championship on Monday after firing a final-round 68 at the San Clemente Municipal Golf Course. Holley, 19, already won the Simi Valley Championship eariler this year. Holley, who's been playing golf for just four years, was four shots back to start the final round, and he won in a playoff. He'll play in the Santa Barbara County Amateur Championships this weekend at La Purisima.
Patrick Cantlay will play the first two rounds of the Frys.com Open with Tiger Woods and Louis Oosthuizen this week. Not bad for an amateur, eh? Cantlay will have done so much more than some PGA Tour players before he event turns pro.... qualifying for the U.S. Open, finishing 20th there, a top-10 finish at the RBC Canadian Open and now playing in a pairing with Tiger. Should make college golf seem easy breezy.
