North Hills resident shares views on NHWNC's volatile situation

North Hills resident Fran Potaski e-mailed the following to the Daily News about the North Hills West Neighborhood Council:

I am a stakeholder of the North Hills West Neighborhood Council I'm actually hesitant starting off with this statement, as I know you believe there are problems within our neighborhood council.

I want to share with you my views on this whole situation. Again I am a stakeholder who is involved in neighborhood council which has become very efficient and effective in fighting off undesirable development. This is one of my issues that I feel very strongly about. It's not that I am against development, I just feel it has to be controlled and reasonable. As do many of my neighbors who have signed partitions to that effect.

The NHWNC is not doing this for their own benefit, it is the stakeholders who come to the meetings and ask for guidance and support when something is about to occur in their neighborhood. I was one of those stakeholders who showed up at a meeting looking for guidance and support. I have learned a great deal from our neighborhood council.

With the accusations against the board I am wondering what happen to innocent until proven guilty. I do believe NHWNC is in America.

I am also wondering why you are listening to a few disgruntled stakeholders and why you are basing all your decisions from them. Have you approached the board? Have you done your own investigations. Have you listen to the tapes of our meetings? Have you asked other stakeholders what they think or feel? Were you at our last meeting? No!!

The Department of Neighborhood Empowerment said that the North Hills West Neighborhood Council is in violation of The Plan, having "failed to foster a sense of community," How can we foster a sense of community when you shut us down when you said the elections were not held properly. At that time the neighborhood council was gaining momentum in bringing in new people and trying to get them involved. I was there and saw it for myself. And again you threaten to shut us down. For what? Failed to adhere to the City's policies against discrimination and failed to run fair and open meetings. What discrimination? Against who, the developers? Fair and open meetings, what does that mean?

We just had elections and haven't even sworn in the new board.

You are issuing a set of demands for video and audio taping of our meetings, that's fine with me but we already have audio tapes of our meetings. What is wrong with them?

Can you please tell me what the problem is?

One other thing - why is it that when other people bring problems to your attention you use the term "cure it?" But then a few people complain, about what? The NHWNC is in violation. I don't think you are playing fair, sounds like reverse discrimination to me.

City Watch, let's be fair.
