The North Hills West Neighborhood Council is bringing back its widely acclaimed Evening Celebration of Art and Music from 5-9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16.
The free community event will again be held at the historic Rayen Street Resort, 15708 Rayen St., North Hills.
All North Hills West stakeholders may attend.
Musical entertainment will include the Dave Connor Trio. Wine, cheese and hors d'oeuvres will be served.
"We are pleased to once again be able to present such an elegant affair for the enjoyment of our neighbors," said NHWNC President Lewis Brown. "We are also grateful to the Church of the Living Word for donating such a beautiful setting. The magnificent estate, once owned by the Ameche family, has been meticulously restored and provides the perfect backdrop for such a gala evening. An occasion like this also offers a wonderful opportunity for neighbors to mingle and get to know each other, as well as those who represent them as board members on the Neighborhood Council."
Featured artists will include Charles Walker, who is also producer and key organizer of the event, and Edem Elesh.

The Nov. 29 meeting of the North Hills West Neighborhood Council got very heated when BongHwan Kim, interim general manager of the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment, attended and acknowledged that DONE's grievance policy needs to be updated and be more “transparent.”
DONE is the city agency that works with neighborhood councils throughout Los Angeles.
According to a press release from resident Peggy Burgess, the board members and residents who filled the meeting room were ready to fight anticipated grievances that had been lodged against the council.
Their main argument against DONE was that board members were given copies of all written and verbal complaints within five days, as required by law, her release states.
North Hills resident Fran Potaski e-mailed the following to the Daily News about the North Hills West Neighborhood Council:
I am a stakeholder of the North Hills West Neighborhood Council I'm actually hesitant starting off with this statement, as I know you believe there are problems within our neighborhood council.
I want to share with you my views on this whole situation. Again I am a stakeholder who is involved in neighborhood council which has become very efficient and effective in fighting off undesirable development. This is one of my issues that I feel very strongly about. It's not that I am against development, I just feel it has to be controlled and reasonable. As do many of my neighbors who have signed partitions to that effect.
The NHWNC is not doing this for their own benefit, it is the stakeholders who come to the meetings and ask for guidance and support when something is about to occur in their neighborhood. I was one of those stakeholders who showed up at a meeting looking for guidance and support. I have learned a great deal from our neighborhood council.

The new North Hills West Neighborhood Council Board will be sworn at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, by L.A. Councilman Greig Smith.
The swearing-in ceremony will take place in Building 22 on the Sepulveda campus of the VA of Greater Los Angeles, 16111 Plummer St., North Hills. The campus is located between Woodley and Haskell avenues.
Follow the signs up the hill.

The NHWNC is looking for stakeholders in the North Hills West area who would like to be on the grievance committee whose job it is to listen to grievances, also known as legal complaints, by the public to the council. The council will have a panel of five randomly selected stakeholders who would like to be involved.
Once the committee is put together, it is one member's job to write a collective report with recommendations to solve the grievances. The report should be written 14 days after the panel meets.
