Kings awards

| | Comments (5) |

The Kings just released their list of award winners from this season:

(As voted by media)
Most Valuable Player: Michael Cammalleri
Best Newcomer: Anze Kopitar
Outstanding Defenseman: Lubomir Visnovsky
Defensive Player: Derek Armstrong

(As voted by Kings players)
Most Inspirational Player: Tom Kostopoulos
Unsung Hero: Tom Kostopoulos

(As selected by Kings Care Foundation)
Community Service Award: Derek Armstrong

(As selected by Kings Booster Club)
Most Popular Player: Anze Kopitar

In the interest of disclosure, the media awards went exactly the way I voted. I think you could make a strong argument for Visnovsky being MVP, but otherwise I thought the choices were pretty obvious.

I don't know...I think Armstrong probably should've have been the unsung hero, and maybe even Kopitar for MVP. But they work for me. :-)

His head is always in the game, he seldom makes mistakes, he comes through when you need him most: Lubomir Visnovsky is the straw that stirs the Kings' drink (even if that drink was a flat Coke most of the year). Visnovsky for MVP.

Nothing against Cammalleri but I agree with Deacon Blue that Lubo was the MVP.

Rich, I just discovered this blog recently and I love it. Keep up the good work!

That's because he was and the last 10 games kinda prove it. He's become one of the top 6 or 7 defensemen in the game.

They gotta lock him up long term in July when they can.

I think it says alot about Kostopolous being selected by his teammates for both team selected awards. Lombardi always talks about locker room guys. He will come cheap so dean should try to lock this guy up for another 2 years.
