USA 6, Austria 2

| | Comments (8) |

Team USA opened the World Championships with an easy victory over Austria. Jack Johnson -- wearing the No. 3 he sported at the University of Michigan -- had one of Team USA's 47 shots on goal. Johnson had no goals, assists or penalties and it's not possible to tell, from the box score, how many minutes he played. USA plays Belarus on Sunday. Michael Cammalleri and Team Canada play tomorrow.

As a reminder, Manchester will try to end its first-round AHL series against Worcester tonight. The Monarchs lead the series 3-1 and play at home tonight.

was on ice for the first us goal, and right in front of the crease when the austrians scored their first (i think he tried to intercept the pass but missed). was on the ice for quite some time (im guessing 10-15min? could be more or less though), had some hits and towards the end of the game he was also on the 2nd pp unit

Also, thanks to reader LB for pointing out that Frolov is playing for Russia. I wasn't sure, given the disputes they'd had over there, and I couldn't find roster info last week, but Frolov is indeed playing and had one goal and one assist in Russia's 9-1 victory over Denmark.
